I've got a feeling I've seen a few seconds of that clip before probably on a prog rock documentary. It looks familar.
I would also agree it comes from the Beat Club.

Absolutely no attempt to pretend the song wasn't prerecorded. I wonder if Fripp bought in his copy of the album for them to play. |
Not to mention the two bass guitars on stage (Lake and Pete Giles)

I can't think of a more awkward band to ever appear on TOTP. Awesome!

I remember seeing pictures of this performance ,,many, many years ago from a booklet included in the Young Person's Guide To King Crimson, double LP released on Island records. I have the Japanese import cd of the Young Person's Guide and wouldn't part with it ever, but it just sounds completely awful and I have to resort to using an EQ in order to clean it up a bit. Never in my life have I actually seen this footage and I'm loving it! This is a very rare and precious moment in time and I really appreciate this vid. Peter Giles playing bass with King Crimson on a film? Really? This is a rare moment that sends chills up my spine. A very unique transitional period for the band. A true rare video archive that should be posted on P.A. along side the classic reviews to further stun the viewers. This is simply amazing! It's as rare as rocking horse sh-t! The only thing I can compare it to would be having a performance on film of Hatfield and the North WITH the Northettes...which will never happen.

According to someone on YouTube it's Top of the Pops footage but with a German continuity link.

Yes that seems most likely, the German presenter looked like he was in the Top of the Pops studio in London. A lot of Top of the Pops footage from the late 60s and early 70s only survives because Swiss and German stations stored it, like the recently found Black Sabbath performance of Paranoid, while good old Auntie Beeb erased nearly all episodes from that era. It makes you wonder what else might turn up - Caravan, Family and Audience were also on the programme in 1970.

I've still got the Young Persons Guide vinyl with the booklet containing the Top of the Pops photos. It really is surreal after all these years to see those static images comes to life. And pretty funny to see the audience attempting to dance to such as undanceable song!

Really? Can you remember where it was shown, as this was previously thought to have been wiped along with 90% of other Top of the Pops from that era.
|
maybe it was just a clip as Andy said in a later post

I noticed some great sh*t, live performance clips from the new upcoming Romantic Warriors movie done on the Canterbury scene that I sure had never seen before. Perhaps they exist and Jose and Adele got access to them.. or they simply got them directly from the bands. I didn't think to ask actually.

Very cool, I had never seen it, thanks for posting!
Now let's hope that Mr. Fripp will not quickly ban it from YT because of author rights infringement

A bullsh*t video and the worst song from Lizard. Just my opinion, of course.

and a very wrong one First, Cat Food is a great tune (especially the longer album version) Second, it's from Poseidon, and it's probably the best song from that album (given that side A is ITOTCK part 2 and Mars is a readaptation of Holtz) As for the vid in itself, it's better than nothing

Of course that's from Poseidon, sorry for the lapse. Lizard doesn't have a weak moment like Cat Food IMO.

Oh I saw this yesterday and I think I've seen it three times since then.
Love seeing early crimson perform (even if it's dubbed) and Greg looks so good!

http://dgmlive.com/news.htm?entry=4998 As far as the origins of the vid itself, here's what a German fellow on another site had to say: " It's "Hits a Go Go" a German - Swiss television co production.
The Music Clips are from TotP. The rest has Swiss or German hosts in the TotPs Studio
with the original TotP GoGo girls. "
