Topic: Dark Side of Oz Posted: June 03 2005 at 11:58 |
has anyone ever tried the coincidental dark side and wizard of oz sync theory?
other ones include echoes/atom heart mother and the end of 2001: a space oddysey. Rumour has it they were offered to do a soundtrack for this film but declined because they dont like being called space rock. They later regretted it after the film became a huge success.

Yes, i've heard of it, but i haven't tired it.
And I didn't know about the space oddysey one. Very interesting.

I've tried both DSotM with Oz and Echoes with 2001 and they both work, although I personally prefer the second one.

Where do you begin playing the album with the movie? I've heard of doing so, but never actually tried it.

Right as the MGM Lion roars a third time during the opening credits.

A bar in town (belfast) did this a few weeks ago on a large screen, It was a good atmosphere. But to be honest it only really works with side A.
Nothing better than being in a pub having a pint and everyone is silent, it's amazing.

The sync with Dark Side is cool, especially for side A (or what would have been side A long ago)
For Echoes and 2001 A Space Odyssey, cue up Echoes, pause it, then find the last section of 2001 known as "Jupiter and Beyond the Infinite." When those words flash on the screen, take Echoes off pause. It's very trippy.

For the echoes thing, I only have it on vinyl. Will it work just the same?

It's actually a phenomenon called "synchronicity."
Apparently the beginning of Meddle goes really well with Disney's old
skool "Fantasia" and "Blade Runner" though I've never tried the Blade
Runner one. The Fantasia synch is cool though.
If you want to watch "Echoes" with the end of 2001, line it up with the
chapter that starts as "Jupiter" about 23 minutes from the end of the
movie.

The Wizard of Oz/ Dark Side Sync (usually dubbed "Dark Side Of The Rainbow") is frighteningly accurate and is available for download from any major shareware program. The first side is the best (with Time being the standout sync IMO!), but unfortunately the album ends before the movie does, so the actual experience ends right about when the tin man is introduced. I suppose one could restart the album there, but the results most likely wouldnt be as good.
I havent seen the Echoes/2001 sync, but i hear its incredible...especially when under the influence of....ummm, yes......its Pink Floyd folks.

I've found some other interesting things like these that I'm sure are complete coincidencers, like matching up The Wall to Fritz Lang's classic movie Siegfried (or Nibelungen in the original form).
