Sorry I left without saying goodbye, Dick. I was not in a very bluesy mood yesterday (au contraire, the French would say) so I switched sites and channels to some 'happy prog'. I will be around more often from now on, I hope, since my prog-fire has gotten some rekindling lately.

The Jack Bruce tribute show has been edited and will be uploaded at We Transfer tomorrow. Let me know if you ave not received notification of the download link by Wednesday.

This coming Thursday's show has the usual mix of the new and the obscure goodies buried in the archives. The Japanese and in particular Universal are busy remastering old recordings. Brand X's Unorthodox Behaviour remastered, certainly compared with my ancient CD, sounds cleaner, crisper and louder. How may people have now done their own interpretations of Sgt Pepper - Easy Star's I sampled  two weeks ago, and then I came across Andy Timmon's shred version and the brand new Flaming Lips interpretation out this week (which the Time rock critic awarded 2/5 stars on Saturday....). Newies from Stanley Clarke with an interesting cast of guest players (but how many times can you re-record 'School Days'?); Eric Johnson/Mike Stern together;  + The Process. The Irish band Crow Black Chicken has been sampled because a reviewer drew parallels with Taste???? And 'Doxy'  for another reminder of Jack Bruce (as well as one of John McLaughlin's earliest jazz recordings).

Some long jazz tracks to kick off with, plus short ones from the new albums by Stanley Clarke and Johnson/Stern. Mindflower is quoted from elsewhere as 'a Hungarian band that fuses jazz fusion with progressive rock' - once upon a time we simply called that 'jazz rock'!!!! (My pet annoyance is others giving new names to music that already has a name ........ or vice versa using the same name for a different musical genre, hence my labelling Howlin' Wolf 'R'n'B', which once for a very long time meant 'rhythm & blues', not soulless soul).  Continue to trawl and find excellent Jack Bruce pieces, two tonight. As promised some Son House. Something from the new Pink Floyd - still not a fan. Can't afford the 100 pound plus for 'Starless' - besides I wonder if I would ever listen to the whole collection of  discs........ - so gone back to the 2011 Steve (Steven) Wilson remaster of 'Starless & Bible Black' which is repackaged in 'Starless'. Life was an obscure 70's UK rock band I missed the first time around, but sound half decent. And we finish with an obscure 70's band I  didn't miss back then, and a perennial favourite from T2 to play us out.

,

BTW a couple of folks have asked me to re-up the show recordings, because they missed or didn't get respective links. If my 'service' been 'intermittent', i.e. some weeks you get notification other you don't let, me know. 5 shows have been posted since the beginning of October, the 6th on Monday.

As suggested during last week's show, the next will largely feature those perennials that get played once a year - because IMHO these tune should be. The jazz slot has a number of longish tunes including my first exposure to Nucleus, 'Snakehips Dream', with an outstanding rhythm guitar from Chris Spedding (why in biogrpahies of Spedding, are there so few references to his jazz fusion work?). Jonas Hellborg appears twice playing heavy rock. Steve(n) Wilson's remix/remaster of XTC - btw both tracks covered by Primus. Perhaps taking liberties calling the Cobham and NTWL tunes standards, but a number of folks have covered these. New recordings by France's Nguyen Le, Poland's Totentanz, and Denmark's Afenginn, plus an early 70's Chicago recording I didn't know existed until v. recently. Enjoy.

A very mixed bags of interesting musics. Jerry De Villiers' new album (currently playing lead on the new Antoine Fafard album) appeared out of the blue. New jazz: Nels Cline/Julian Lage album (Nels appears lates with Wilco, too); the UK critically acclaimed album by Dylan Howe (with his dad on one track), and a third Robert Wyatt compilation (to accompany his recently published biog), provides an excellent history of his music (left rock to avant jazz). The (Japanese) remasters continue: guess which this week?  One of my favourite Swedish blues guitar players Jimmy Agren. As threatened, to make up for no folk last week, three from Richard Thompson, plus one from Richie Havens. A Slovakian remaster of Collegium Musicum 'Live' album, with one my favourite bass solos (what, recorded ~ 2 years before Jaco Pastorius appeared????). Kim Sajn of +1 has provided a sample track from their forthcoming album. And several other left field rock  examples to be heard.

Last week's show recording and( because of several requests to re-upload), the Jack Bruce tribute show are found here:
