This is good to hear. I listened to some of these albums on Spotify and YouTube before I bought them and really enjoyed what I heard. I suppose I should get the 70s Live album as well or should I wait on that one?

Their self-titled debut is essential, and an awesome album, and wrongly overlooked. Produced by the late, great Conny Plank.

Well, it's hard to track down for one thing and quite expensive. I believe I read that you're favorite albums are their s/t and Inside, is this correct? It appears you're a fan of their really early period but hardly anything else.

Never heard it to be honest Doug, and I'll have to ckeck it out for sure, given what you said about it. |

I had a quick look up on Wikipedia:
Jürgen Rosenthal is a German rock drummer. He was a member of Uli Jon Roth's band Dawn Road, but became a member of theScorpions, along with Roth and Francis Buchholz, when Dawn Road was annexed into a lineup with Klaus Meine and Rudolf Schenker. He appeared on one album, Fly to the Rainbow, before having to leave to do his compulsory service with the Army. He later appeared in Eloy,[1] and wrote the lyrics for their successful 1977 album Ocean. He also wrote the lyrics to another successful album Dawn. Jurgen Rosenthal style as a drummer is very unique and it would appear to be a major contributor to Eloy's most successful years (1976-1979) during which they produced Ocean, Dawn, Eloy Live, and Silent Cries Mighty Echoes. The music that Eloy put out during 1976 to 1979 has a lot of fans all around the world for its unique and enchanting character..... Some would say: "Progressive Rock at its best". so Neil Peart wasn't the only drummer who wrote lyrics.. |

This band is just damn good! So far I've listened to Ocean, Silent Cries and Mighty Echoes, Floating, and Colours. I LOVED each of them. Next up will be Power and the Passion.

Also, Frank Bornemann's voice isn't bad at all and I think he gets some unnecessary dirt flung at him for no good reason. His English isn't 100% perfect, but, for a non-English speaker, I think he does a fine job, plus, I can't imagine Eloy without Bornemann's voice. No other vocalist would be right. It also helps that he's an excellent guitarist and gives Eloy a lot of their edge. And now a question: who writes most of Eloy's material? Bornemann?

^ I believe so as its his band with Klaus-Peter Matziol being the only other ever present since about 1976. There have been several different line ups of Eloy but the sound and approach has generally remained the same.

Same here. Accent or not, his voice has a pleasant timbre, and it's unique in (I hate to use this particular comparison, but it's apt) the same way Waters' vocals were for Floyd. I don't think Frank sounds like Roger, his singing just fits the songs. |

Another band that I have yet to try out - I can remember listening to them a bit in the early eighties - I think I have one CD - Inside - another I have bought and never spun....I really should make an effort to listen to the 100+ CD's that I have bought and never listened to!!!

Yep, but I'm sure there have been some songs that were group efforts.

Yes, the timbre of his voice is easy on the ears. The Waters comparison is a good one as I couldn't imagine anyone else singing Pigs (Three Different Ones) for example. Bornemann simply fits the music.
