All right, I'll shut up about HGttG, I promise.

I want to read HHGttG but I've seen quotes from it and just find them kind of annoying and it's a huge put off.
wtf no

Hitchhikers is the greatest thing ever.  The first book is the one that's been overquoted by everyone anyway.  Skim through that one to get the characters familiarized, then move on to the other 4 books.  They can be pretty deep, and the last one (Mostly Harmless) is really dark.
I've not read those either.  I tried watching the movie once but thought it really bad and didn't make it very far into it at all.
I can't imagine the movie would win any new fans.  I thought it was fun to see how they adapted it to a movie, awkward bits and all.  But to a newcomer, it's definitely on the cheesy side.  Thing is, the philosophical underpinning of much of the fiction in the books is really interesting to me.  For example, the idea that a distant race of intelligent beings spent centuries building a super-computer designed to calculate the answer to the Ultimate Question, and then only to have to admit that they didn't even really know what the question was, so the answer they got ("42") was meaningless.  Stuff like that.

I've heard the quality of the books drops off greatly after the first 2 (or 3 depending on who you ask). Lizzy tried reading the series but lost interest halfway through the second.
The 4th one is not so great, I'll grant that.  But the 5th is my favorite.  But you know, not for everybody I guess.

I always got uncomfortable watching him.  I always thought he was about to turn to Jell-O.

I love chai and best when it's cooked on the stove. Really love fruit and berry teas. Don't think I have ever tried Oolong...

I've never had properly made chai, I should some day. Oolong tea is just a kind of tea that is partially oxidized, so it's more oxidized than a green tea but less than a black tea.
