and that makes sense....the RTR would be for audio eye candy.

Still pretty awesome though. Everything and anything sounds better through an Analog signal.
Be pretty cool to reel original analog master tapes. I'm all for it if I could afford it.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

There are no new albums on RTR tape that you and I would listen to, issued anymore.
I have a few The Who, Boston on RTR. The idea for RTR is for archiving your vinyl, play the tape rather than the vinyl to save it.
And they truly are a machine of eye candy, watching the big reels spin and VU meters dance with the music is very cool.
Any deck you find is gonna be 25+yrs old and in need of servicing, so its not a cheap hobby.
I have a Teac X2000-R, one of the last best consumer decks made and it is in pristine condition....I have been offered $1500 for it, but will never sell it.
I have tremendous amounts of patience so RTR works for me....and the sound reproduction is pretty sweet.

I've always been interested in getting a reel to reel player. They seem to be one of, if not the highest quality record mediums of it's time. But the relatively low number of albums made for it makes me think that if I ever do get one, it'll be when I can actually afford to spend that kind of money more frequently.

Not vinyl...but still analog. The resurgence continues.....New issued RTR tapes are very expensive since these are essentially made to order. For example The Tape Project (Google it), sold out of the collections they reissued at about $500 a set.

I have heard these tapes at a local show once on a Studer deck and it was insane at the detail and SQ...Only a super high end digital system rivals the sound IMO.

I would be happy just to see BASF or Maxell/TDK issue new production tape.

I'm generally not into 45s, most of mine are from my Grammy, including that one. She gave me my first record player in fact. Still, I like a nice, high quality picture sleeve, and sometimes they're the only way to get a kick ass song.

^ Nice...most of my 45s are my parents collection. I keep them in 45 albums, a few are worth $5-$15 ea.
But I will never sell them....

The 1993 classic, Up The Downstair, comes as a Limited Edition (2000 copies) double 180 gram heavy-weight red coloured vinyl release with gatefold sleeve, and features the 2004 remix/remaster of Up the Downstair/Staircase Infinities, plus the bonus track Phantoms (taken from the Stars Die anthology).

Please note that these represses have identical contents and design to the Delerium/Headspin editions, although this is the first time they have been issued in coloured vinyl.

Thanks for the information. I guess I will have to find a used one of the original, I don't like the drums on the re-recording. By the way, one thing I never understood: can 180 gram vinyls be played on any turn table?

Yes 180g and 200g can be played on any TT. The only concern people talk about is VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) but it is such a minimal change in height, I have never heard any difference. Most of what I have in constant rotation is 180g, so I make all my tonearm/cartridge adjustments to that thickness.

Have fun!

^ You can disable the anti-skate, set to zero or remove the weight...It is such a minute amount of force probably nothing will happen long term. Anti skate works in conjunction with tracking force.

For sure if you have a high end cartridge not a good idea to play the label grooves. IMO

No, no...Side A the groove starts at the inside and then plays to the outside. The outside edge has an endless groove so the needle does not drop off the outside edge....all played in regular rotation.

Don't play it often.

You'll destroy your stylus and the record rapidly if you do. The arm on a record deck has some mechanism (spring or hanging weight usually) to provide the centripetal force necessary for the stylus to move to the centre of the disc without hitting the outer wall of the groove.

If the stylus has to move outwards, that means it HAS to use the inner wall of the groove to counteract this and move outwards. This will do neither any good.

Red vinyl to boot!!

Is this the original version or the re-recording with real drums? I can't find new copies of the original on CD or vinyl.

^ No problem...will do! For some vinyl just expands the listening experience....points Chris S has stated.

Glad you like the thread.

One of the most important aspects of vinyl for me was also the quality of the label on the disc, really love Deram/Decca/Arista and of course the ultimate Charisma. Plus the date was important. Vertigo was cool too with only the info on side 2. The original Virgin.....Clearlight Symphony.....mmmm, sorry just went on a preambleEmbarrassed
