Meanwhile, on the other side of the pool, the campaign for the Dutch municipal elections has started. This picture was taken in Hağişehir, a city formerly known as Den Haag (English: The Hague).

Snerk - http://studdblog.blogspot.com/2011/10/1973-dutchthreat-or-menace.html 1973: The Dutch - Threat or Menace?I was first made aware of the insidious Dutch conspiricy to weaken the morals of good American men, turning them into miserly, chocolate eating, wooden shoe wearing, tree hating hippies in the April 1973 issue of THIS fine magazine of investigative journalism. |

Wow this thread is moving slower than the US economy *slaps knee*
And barely anything constructive or even real... Do I gotta pull all the weight here? Soooooooooo a permanent government job program would take care of our unemployment problem, especially long term, and would provide a major boost to the private sector. We could eliminate much of our welfare state with its various issues, and people could be put to work doing useful things for society and the environment. The fed would no longer have to try to spur employment and distort the economy, instead focusing on regulation and price stability. In fact, the job program could help stabilize the economy by raising revenue in a boom and bringing government deficits to necessary levels in a slump. Vote me President 2016 |

So we're finally getting paid for the Dutch Threat which made the people of the US suffer, some 41 years ago. By the people who gave us the tulip five centuries ago, for crying out loud! Maybe our language can be enriched a bit by incorporating some more Turkish words than yoghurt only, but Ottoman aspirations, as indicated by those election posters in Turkish, are not quite in proportion with what we did to the Americans. |

Forget the rich!
Just leave them be and let's focus on an agenda for the rest of us. Said it for ages now, and some other people agree
It's all a massive distraction, caught up defending or wanting to attack the wealthiest few. If we put our biases aside, we all should realize: We just can't get their wealth from them, nor are they job creators in any meaningful way. Let the debate be how to best serve the 99% (or 99.something whatever) and not worry about them. As the author said "We don't need their money" best line I've read in ages!

In response to Brian's disappearing post
Sure you can get by with only 65.4% of the wealth - you simply need to not count the top 1% and their 34.6% in your overall wealth calculations, like GDP and all that other economics stuff that determine the socio-economic status of a country. It then reflects the true wealth of a nation after all. And then all you need to do is some cunning slight-of-hand bookkeeping when a percentage of the remaining wealth gets syphoned off every year by that 1%. But why stop there? Why not ignore the top 5% and the 62% of the nation's wealth that they ferret away in the Cayman Islands or wherever. They deserve the same breaks as their slightly wealthier 1% betters do they not? But what then of the next 5%? Now if you ignore their wealth too you can forget the top 10% and the 73% of the country's wealth they have stacked in bank vaults around the world, surely you all can get by with only 27% of the country's wealth can't you? Well sure you can, because you currently are - an economy is money in motion and if only 27% of the wealth is actually doing anything then that is the true state of the economy. You are living in one of the richest countries in the world after all but displaying that openly is so nouveau-gauche.

Damn that lacks context. I have no idea what Brian said.
Anyway, if you only count the last three slices of the pie, this country is extremely equal and fair.

whut is up with caring about the rich or poor equality... There are things more important.... There will always be rich and poor ect ect to focus on that shiit only leads to class warfare. yes yes it will always be problem but their are more concerning things like the deBt and many liberties being eroded or ignored in Usa. Im jst talking USA cant talk to much about other countries i dont live there lol.

Your wealth sort of relates to your liberty if you want the word liberty to reflect something more realistic than a mathematical axiom. |

Some wealthy people wouldn't even trickle down their urine if it didn't give them a larger benefit down the road.
