How do you know that a supreme being would experience the same concepts and emotions that we do?

I'm atheist as well, but it's really impossible to ever know for certain.
Very good point.....reminds me of Eckart Tolle's Power of Now teachings

There are fundamental flaws with humans, unnatural flaws. No other species on this planet is so destructive to itself or to others. A creator if one existed would recoil in horror, surely and try rectify the matter of his creation? Again it all comes down to faith or evolution. History definitely prompts a ' non religious' thread like thisSmile

This is not a question of emotion. And if it's not an intelligent being, why bother worshiping it if it can't make rational judgments?
How is intelligent anything but a relative term? Doing the intelligent thing can completely change depending on how much information one has on a situation. With that, it wouldn't be too far off that a super-being's emotions would be different from ours because of its divinity/omnipotence.
The Earth is a situation. If God isn't intelligent enough to take care of it, why do we need him in the first place? Besides, how would you explain the nature of this "divinity/omnipotence" and prove it's there without ever examining it?
What if the super-being has the foresight not to meddle with it, or just kinda made it and let things go as they please?

You can't prove it. At all. First I would have to prove there is a god, and we all know how that goes. I'm simply saying that if there was a god, it would most likely not simply be a human with lots of magical powers and some foresight.

Before we stop at "the super-being ... just kinda made it and let things go as they please", let's not forget about the Big Bang. To me the very idea that the Big Bang gave birth to Earth and all the beings on it, including humans, is fascinating. A result of an uncontrolled experiment.

I can't believe that all the suffering that humans had gone through were a result of foresight. Besides, who begot the thing that created Earth for no reason?

God is what man created him to be; ergo, we've suffused him with human emotions. This is obviously more apparent in the Graeco-Roman and Norse pantheons, where jealousy, betrayal and adultery are rampant, but it is as equally notieceable in the god of the O.T.: a vengeful god (downright vicious and vindictive in many cases); a god like a mortal king of the time, requiring worship and absolute obedience; and at times a capricious and fey god who cruelly toys with his servants (the story of Abraham and Isaac, and the Book of Job come to mind).

Each civilization, when creating their specific god, imbued the creator with whatever best fit their society. Rather like the Hebrew priests who invented and wrote the Mosaic Law while in exile. If you look at the 10 Commandments, exactly half regard property, marriage or familial rights, and capital crimes. These would all benefit the upper caste Hebrews (of which the priests would include themselves). And of course, the other half dealing with god would keep the priest employed, and thus remain in the upper caste. Wink

You can never disprove god's existence but you get tired of the possibility after some time.

Can't you just accept that sh*t happens? [Getting into philosophy here] Nothing has any inherent purpose, but that's what makes everything so great. We have the ability to construct our own lives out of anything we want and create our own meaning. Our lives are as good as we'll let them be and not as good as any super being decides it shall be.

AGAIN, perhaps this super-being doesn't care much for those who have suffered, because in the long run things improve. Hell, have you ever met anyone who hasn't suffered? Pain is part of the game, you wouldn't know how good happiness is without it.

1) You can never disprove god's existence but you get tired of the possibility after some time.

1) Yet I keep trying. I persist. Approve Cool

2) I can. And I concur.

3) Couldn't agree more. My main point here is: there is no one to worship for any reason. That is all.

Because of your god-like forum posting tendencies.

None whatsoever. Just filling the proverbial wind in your sails for your new "religion of one". Maybe you can get tax exempt status.

Ummm...just joking about the whole "worship yourself" idea.Tongue

Brilliant, you could call it Meism.
