Somewhere in between Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down for me Geekfreak. Joy To The World, Little Drummer Boy, Hark The Herald Angels and one or two others are excellent. There are a few cheesy (musical, not vocally as only 2 tracks have vocals) moments which for me stop it being a great album.

I am ummm/arrgh (Ant Phillips!) about buying the new TA! I have A HORRIBLE feeling that the lyrics will mention jesus more than a Billy Graham gig !!!
Anyway I think I have more worthy bands to concentrate on in the new year.......I despair as some silly b*****do on the BBC is saying that people commit crimes because they aren't afraid of god any more!!! If believing that a sky fairy is watching you is the only reason you don't mug that old lady leaving the post-office then sky-fairy help-you! I and other atheists have this same choice but I wouldn't mug the old lady because "I" would see the crime, and since I have a hell of a lot of self-respect I wouldn't be able to live with myself for committing such an obviously "wrong" thing to do...I didn't need a book to learn that fact - just a well honed sense of what is and what isn't socially acceptable...Have a nice new year folks....PEACE!

I think you might be right about the first track at least, Barney, given the sub headings Wink

1."Into the Blue"
I. "Overture"
II. "The Dreamer and the Healer"
III. "A New Beginning"
IV. "Written in Your Heart"
V. "The Dreamer and the Healer (Reprise)[5]"

cool...look forward to having some time to listen to this.

Until Kaleidoscope comes out I'm currently enjoying Spock's Beard.  Until now, I've only listened to the first Beard album with any regularity.

Kindness of Strangers is really exceptional!

What an amazing talent Morse is...just SO much good music over many, many years and several bands.  Cool stuff.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!

I pre-ordered on Amazon.  I'm hoping it shows up in next couple of days but suspect that I might be waiting until the weekend or next week.

New TA rocks my socks. Neal sounds amazing. And yes he did have his controversial lyrical input. Which to me I enjoy and love. Sorry for the haters, I'm not one. The others members of Transatlantic don't mind it.

I'm as atheistic as they come and I love all of Neal's output. The lyrics can be a tad embarrassing at times but it's not really a big deal. The TA album doesn't mention god or Jesus to my memory. There's a few "him"s and so on, though.

Right there with you! I have been enjoying the new album for a week now and it is pretty amazing....I have the 3-LP/2-CD set and love it. I finally connected with Black As the Sky, just did not pay much attention to it, that songs is pretty darn good!

Solidified my feeling this album is a 5 for me.

Can't wait for Sunday night in Seattle, the TA ship lands!

Enjoyed Kaleidoscope (the song) this morning! Will do the rest later...

Great opening I thought and some tasty stuff in the middle. ALomost Beatles-esque there for a bit? Where Daniel Gildenow sings?

Portnoy sounds great. The mix sounds great.

Looking forward to 2/9 in NYC!

Well, I bought it, listened to it, and I'm puzzled.

I used to be a huge NM fan boy up until about the Lifeline album, and something happened to my hearing which made it almost impossible to distinguish which song was from which album.

At the same time I decided to become more acquainted with the Transatlantic albums, only to find the NM solo and Transatlantic are practically indistinguishable to me.

With a slight exaggeration I find that not only has the style remained unchanged for many years now, but it's always the same three or four songs with only minimal differences. It's as if a computer has been fed with a number of musical passages and a random number generator jumbles up the order in which they're fused together.

Transatlantic and NM seem to be the prog version of AC/DC.

And I'm not talking lyrics here, I never listen to lyrics, they go right over my head, the voice to me is just an instrument.

I really don't mind if N.M. kept his born-again Christian delusions on his solo material, I just feel that would be the correct vehicle for his POV. However, he has gate-crashed TA's great music with his preaching - and I really can't listen to the whirlwind anymore - because the lyrics are so fecking irritating !!
Unfortunately, people ARE entitled to their life-views even if they are castles-in-the-sky...I shall try to give the new TA a fair listening. In fact I will try to concentrate on the music and not read the lyrics - the CD should be here in a few days - I can't see it bettering "All the above" though - that track is their best by a mile !!!

I think the Morse Code is a pretty well known phenomenon....

A few people have noticed that NM's writing of song's seems to be formulaic. I haven't heard much of his solo stuff (coz the lyrics put me right off).
