15 March 2013 Weekend 2013
 

I'd like to thank everyone involved for making the Marillion weekend in the Netherlands so memorable. We are so incredibly lucky to have the talented and dedicated crew, management and fan club teams responsible for everything from selling the merchandising to running the Marillion museum and without a doubt, the best audience on the planet.
It was an insane amount of work for the band to try and play three full albums and all the other songs over the three days but I think we did pretty well, a few gremlins here and there but nothing too serious. The response from the fans made it all worthwhile.

 
 

It was great to share the stage with my daughter Jennifer during Brave, a song that features her crying as a very young baby (also the music in the first section of Made Again was written for her when she was born).

Thanks to everyone for the compliments on my photo exhibition in the Marillion museum. For anyone who missed them the photos in the exhibition can now be seen at www.postcardsfromtheroad.co

Here's looking forward to doing it all again in Montreal!

Well I think that went quite well! Thank you all for being there with us once again. It was such a good vibe this year and never ceases to amaze me staring out over the crowd. We have always wanted to perform Brave with the sort of production that we feel it deserves but up until now have never been in a position to do so. So, thank you also for giving us that opportunity. I think you will agree, it was very special. 
The only thing against us this year was the weather. But over the years we have been particularly lucky in that respect. This did however give everyone a chance to see all the other bits and pieces that our huge team of staff and helpers arrange and put together to make the weekend that little bit more special. From the museum or the shop to the quiz and Marillion Karaoke, I think more people attended or got a peek at this side of the weekend's schedule than ever before and we the band would personally like to thank every one who worked or gave their time to helping this and the whole convention happen.
I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.

We hope you all got back safely ..if not necessarily at the time you planned!! Don't worry you weren't alone. No-one escaped that bad weather for the homeward journey.

Let's do it all again sometime!

I can't believe nobody has posted about the Montreal weekend yet. Still didn't surpass 2009, but Brave in it's entirety was truly magic. A dream was realized a week and a half ago. Whereas Rothery was the star of the show for Radiation Friday, Hogarth stole the show on Saturday. I said that I was hoping that they had a nice clean performance of Brave, and with the exception of just a couple of minor hiccups, they pulled it off brilliantly. I've seen Marillion 11 times, and have never seen h on fire like he was on Saturday night. Just blistering and "Hard As Love" was an absolute stunner.

I think h gave so much during Brave that he didn't have a lot left over for the second set. Granted, it wasn't my favorite set list (beginning with "Rich", which is a lower tier song), but they did do a killer version of "Warm Wet Circles/That Time Of The Night".

Had a great time hanging out with Steve from this group. Just a phenomenal weekend. Still got the post-Marillion Weekend Blues, though.

Brave to be re-released on vinyl in May.....have already pre-ordered my copy. Cut from the original vinyl production masters, based on all other Marillion vinyl I have I can only expect the usual brilliant, clean, beautiful sound from my turntable.
The re-issue is suppose to also have the double groove side 4 with the 2 endings.

Another vinyl pre-sale I just participated in........this one for Radiation. This blue vinyl edition will be of the remixed versions from the CD issue this past March. Will be available for shipment in June.....

Marillion are one of my top five favorite bands and I've seen them quite a few times (including Montreal weekends in '11 and '09.  I even had a ticket for this year's weekend in Montreal but pulled out at the last minute...still kicking myself over that move.
 
While I think most of their catalogue is brilliant, for some reason Brave just leaves me cold.  Maybe is the subject matter but I just don't gravitate to that album as I do to others.  Marbles on the other hand still gets regular play on my iPod and I never tire of hearing Ocean Cloud or Rothery's guitar on Angelina.
 
I also just ordered the 9.30 to Fillmore book.  I was lucky enough to see three shows on that tour (Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco) and I am readily visible in one of the photos from the Fillmore show.

9 July 2013 CANCELLATION OF H/BARBIERI SHOWS 2013
 

It is with extreme regret and no little reluctance that Richard and I must announce the cancellation of our forthcoming August and September shows. We have worked hard and planned carefully to make this tour a memorable musical event. We assembled a brilliant creative unit of talented musicians and performers and were careful to communicate to our respective fan-bases the intention to play a spectrum of music from across our careers. Unfortunately, the process has seen expenses spiralling beyond our initial estimates and tough economic times have led to a slow take-up of ticket sales so far. Financially the tour just won't work. We can't compromise the quality of the band or the performance and, in this instance, we're not backed by a large corporation and all expenses and losses will have to be incurred personally. This has left us with little alternative but to pull the plug on the project.

Support from the public has been enthusiastic, and we're grateful to those of you who have rushed out early and bought tickets. We will do all we can to ensure existing ticket-holders are refunded. We do appreciate that there may be people who have incurred travel and hotel expenses in connection with our tour and, especially during these tough times, we are truly sorry if you are out of pocket over this.

We hope to revisit this project in the future as and when our respective Marillion and Porcupine Tree schedules allow as we were very excited about the show we had been planning.

Brave for me is pretty close to a masterpiece, within the Marillion catalog. Top 10 album for me, I'd have to think hard if it is top 5.
I too will be getting the Brave DVD Live..

6 August 2013 Marillion Gig Update
 

Marillion announce that, following a breach of our original agreement with the concert promoter, we have no choice but to pull out of the Mott The Hoople/Marillion O2 show.
Marillion were very much looking forward to the show which would have been a great conclusion to Marillion's November European tour. It is therefore with great regret and apology to Marillion's fans and to Mott The Hoople (who we respect enormously) that we must cease involvement in this event. We have been advised that anyone who has bought a ticket for the show to see Marillion should go to the point of sale to get their refund.

In better news - we have been added to the line-up of the 2nd Cruise To The Edge (www.cruisetotheedge.com), alongside Yes, Steve Hackett, UK and many more. We hope for calm seas!

We hope you are all having a great Summer and we look forward to seeing you all in November on the Sounds Live Tour.

^ I wonder too laz.......seems they are on a rut with show cancellations. H show and now a Marillion gig....seems regardless of side it is always about money

I still wonder when I will be able to see them live

I wish I could get into these dudes.  It seems like H's voice is the key.  If that moves you, the rest is just icing on the cake.  I like their sound, but it just doesn't blow my mind.  I do respect them and their relationship with their fan base.  I've heard the Fish era stuff, and Clutching At Straws stands out to me.  Any advice?  Wink

Once you have finished with the Fish era (you will like them all based on what you said), I would go for Seasons End, the H era debut. Go on from there if you like that. I would recommend Brave and Marbles if you like this.
