Works 2 isn't a contractual obligation and technically neither was LB, but it was kind of forced on them at a time when they needed to haave a break |
That may be but they are still very mediocre music to come from such talented musicians. |
Works 2 should have been a bonus CD for Works Volume One which is actually what happened when it was reissued in its 'deluxe edition'.
Its has some great tracks and in fact nothing on it could be called 'mediocre' but the problem was that they more or less included everything they had left lying around that was recorded over 4 years. Some of the tracks were from the BSS sessions and some were from Works sessions and some were just solo tracks. As a fan I want it and that's why it was released.
Love Beach is a another thing altogether. I still believe they were only 3-4 tracks short of a decent album. It could have done with better production as well. It needed more work to get in shipshape but at the time they were (as Snow Dog mentions) desperately needing a break. The Works tour was a massive undertaking and they needed more time. They could have waited until teh storm of punk and new wave had finally blown over and then maybe recorded again perhaps in 1980. Hindsight is a great thing of course!
