Glad to hear it! It was probably the right thing to do. It took so long for it to come out the first time, it'll probably take a long time to come out again. And I'm sure it's frustrating having a gaping hole in your collection like that.

It is, especially one that came out in Frank's lifetime. It won't have the numbered spine (#13) like the rest of the reissues have (my FZ collection looks so organized now), but it will be nice to finally listen to the album. I'm now hoping the reissue doesn't come out any time soon, so I don't regret buying the original CD copy, unless the sound is a lot different.

200 Motels probably has the worst sound quality of any official Zappa release, just by virtue of the way it was recorded - pretty much live in the film studio as it happened. "Bad sound quality" for Zappa is still pretty good though, and shouldn't affect your enjoyment too much. It's probably something that won't ever be improved upon no matter how many times they remaster it.

I remember of the sound of the vinyl. Not so bad. I think i'm gonna wait for the next edition. So much material to explore ...

Is there a release date on DMT yet or is it still 'coming down the pipe'?

I'm a bit late, but let me add a few favorites of mine to the list:
Good "serious" albums: Hot Rats, Uncle Meat, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, The Grand Wazoo, Roxy & Elsewhere, One Size Fits All, Studio Tan, Sleep Dirt, Shut Up 'n Play Yer Guitar, YCDTOSA2, Make a Jazz Noise Here (even though I'm personally not a fan of that one, people really seem to like it) |

Speaking of serious works, I just got in the mail:
Civilization Phaze III Everything Is Healing Nicely FZ:OZ ![]() Those first 2 are serious music, especially CPIII. I'm so excited to listen to these albums, as they generally contain much music I'm not very familiar with. I'm also going to go back to albums I've bought recently that haven't received enough plays since I got them. |

I listened to FZ:OZ earlier, and it was quite refreshing to hear a Zappa band in such a stripped down environment. Not to mention the sound is excellent for what it is, the drums and bass cut right through I can't say when I'll get around to listening to CPIII and EIHN, as I have a lot of CDs to get through (Zappa and other), so it may be a while before I sit down with them, but who knows... I wanted to mention how good the packaging for those 2 albums are, probably the most gorgeous packaging/artwork of all the Zappa albums. |

Not sure, but I'm downloading now from Zappateers. Lots of unreleased stuff on there (why hasn't the ZFT released it yet???) Here's some info on Chalk Pie http://www.lukpac.org/~handmade/patio/weirdo/unreleased.html#chalkpie |

Cucamonga is a great album to put on during a cold, rainy, overcast day. Might be the heavy blues/50s doo-wop sound, makes me think of that time, like shore towns or middle class suburbs with everyone's clothes hanging out to dry.

Every time I think I'm almost done collecting all his albums, I keep finding unreleased/alternate stuff to check out. Check out this alternate version of You Are What You Is: http://https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OCnnbPvQeSk |

How is Chalk Pie? I think I've heard some or all of it on a bootleg.

It's pretty fun. The sound and mix is different for all the songs that have been released already, and in some cases, alternate/extended solos, I mean, What's New In Baltimore is double the length of the FZMTMOP version. A couple of tracks are completely different versions, and there's at least 3 tunes that have never been released before. You get all that, plus most of the tracks segue into each other, really giving it its own identity. It kinda sounds like the best 80s album (pre-88) that never existed; so it's definitely a worthwhile album to check out. |
