What about that Rolling Stones album `Satanic Majesties Request'? I haven't listened to it in years, but from what I recall, it was really rather good, and much better than being merely dismissed as a `Sgt Pepper' clone. If I recall, there was quite a bit of nice Mellotron it it as well?

Many an album were made in the mold of Pepper, but let's not forget that Pepper was a reaction to Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. McCartney said that himself - they were so in awe of that record, and of Brian Wilson's studio tinkering, that they immediately felt like it was the benchmark. Beatles didn't invent the wheel. More like they chromed it to make it look flash...
Alright back to the question: I'd say nearly every Kinks album up to about 78. Dark Side of the Moon has a lot in common as well from a technical point of view, even if it sounds altogether different.

I was just reading about this album that's been a favorite of mine for many years, Carla Bley's "Escalator Over the Hill". According to one source, Bley began work on it after hearing Sgt Pepper, and she "decided to match it". It took about 3 years to complete, and was released in 1971, a triple album avant garde jazz rock opera. Everyone from Don Cherry to Jack Bruce to Dewey Redman to Linda Ronstadt appears on it, and I've never heard anything else quite like it. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to find any overt Sgt Pepper influences; but that just goes to show how much Sgt Pepper widened the playing field of popular music. All kinds stuff - from avant garde to mainstream pop - took inspiration from that album.
