You probably didn't read the poll question well and hence couldn't understand.  They simply voted for the band they prefer.  One doesn't HAVE to prefer the more important band only. I take LZ to be a far more significant band than Alice in Chains but I certainly prefer the latter, eight days a week.

rogerthat hello you Smile
Good point above and yes I misundertood the question, tastes differ however I still can't understand how one can compare nevermind vote other than Beatles (hihihihi Wink me being ignorant here but speaking in all honesty Tongue)
Anyway tks and hugs Hug

Maybe we should all just take Paul McCartney’s advice who when questioned about its relevance has been known to have commented, “It’s a great double album, it sold, it’s the bloody Beatles White Album, shut up!”ApproveHug LOL
The Beatles” or as it’s more commoney known the ‘White Album”, is considered by many, including John Lennon himself, as the album that saw the Beatles reach their peak as songwriters.

This album was very diverse in terms of music genres, it stood the test of time, to date I continue to listen and enjoy the album. It might not be as innovative as Sgt. Pepper or Revolver however Helder Skelter was certainly progressive at the time considering that no band/musician ever had recorded anything even similar. Also some of the track titles are so silly and fun, this is prog too Big smileLOL

really? you don't think the White Album had any impact on progressive music?
I'm not sure but it if did then it  the "White Album" would be Prog-Related since the Prog Movement had already been started by bands like Procol Harum and The Moody Blues by that point.

Hi Hacketfan Hug
I have to disagree with you. The beatles were the first in mixed time signatures, i.e. "She said" reaches 8/5. Their influences of psychedelic style inc. indian instrumentation also with sitar, etc, inc. electronica especially in "Tomorrow never Knows" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" was new thus not recorded by any other band at the time. Also "A day in life" is prog unless you can explain to me why it's not.
Even YES were very influenced by the Beatles, i.e. Jon Anderson said that YES were influenced by the beatles especially Sgt. Pepper and Magical Tour albums, that they have been a big influence on their music, especially early yes. YES even recorded a beatles cover called "Every Little thing" on their debut album.

I doubt it (as much as I like the album).
I agree because I don't think there were any Proto-Prog Bands after  1967 in England or America. To me, Procol Harum Started Prog in England with their Self-Titled Debut.
And in America I think Prog started when The Mothers of Invention released Absolutely Free.

IMHO means "In My Honest Opinion".
SPLHCB means "Sergent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

Maybe that might be Prog-Related like Maxwell's SIlver Hammer might be. (Just my opinion though)

Love both Bands, But I'm going with Rush. The Beatles are cool but they never put out an epic like "2112".
"A Day in the Life" is one of the best Proto-Progs IMHO though. ( And one of the last major ones.)

I don't hear much inflection on the words, varying the emphasis or stress, all of which adds up to the flavour.  Just singing one word quickly but holding another a bit more, for  example, these are very subtle but important aspects of rock/pop vocals because mostly they depend heavily on the lyrics.  Geddy sings the lines very neatly and nicely and that's it.  I think given the lyrics, the song has the potential to be more than just a breezy little upbeat and pleasant number.

Well, on this one Geddy does a diligent job articulating the syllables in synch with the rhythm, and in tune with the progression of the musical tones. I suppose that's what you meant anyway by the "lack of flavour"?

What can we do? It's a strange poll. It would be like Pink Floyd vs. Eloy...and I'd pick Eloy. Beso! LOL
