I'll definitely vote Rush for their consistency. To me only about half of The Beatles discography is worth listening to, though those albums are some of the best ever recorded.

Voted Rush as I don't really like much of The Beatles discography despite having heard it since I was in my pram!

The Beatles were probably the most versatile, innovative and influential band of all time. Like him or not, Sir Paul is one of the most talented and prolific composers on this planet, period. Between Paul and John they also generated an impressive collection of outstanding lyrics.
Rush is an accomplished and much-beloved band with a long and dignified career, but frankly I don't think they are quite in the same category as The Fab Four. |

Revolver is as good as any Rush album........but I choose Rush because their music is complex, and I love 'complex'. The Beatles' complexities were sowewhat basic in comparison (if you can understand what I'm saying). I'll go with a vote for Rush.

Having said the above - I much prefer McCartney's voice to Geddy's, but I prefer Geddy's bass chops to McCartney's.........and Ringo is no Neil..............................(yes, I know, he doesn't have to be.........)

The Beatles overrated? Are they all mad? As good as they are, ask yourselves how Rush even manage to exist.

And so Beatles simply wouldn't exist without many other performers who existed in 50's. I mean, The Beatles apperared not on an empty stage, and they simply wouldn't exist without someone too. Should we vote for Buddy Holly against Rush then? |

Yes, obviously if that was the vote question, absolutely. But The Beatles are far more directly related to the concept of a band being the star, not just a solo singer with a backing band. The Beatles are in an unique position, and shouldn't (IMO) be judged against anyone in a relatively average historical position, it's not like for like. Judge Rush against their own rivals and contemporaries. I'm saying all this not as a Beatles fan as such, that's not the point.

My answer would be that Rush had one "big head", whereas The Beatles had about two-three of those. And I really don't know about this idea that Yoko was the one who split up the band since she wasn't in it. |

I agree with you Argonaut, the Beatles were groundbreaking and at the forefront of everything, I go even as far as saying that they might even have invented metal with Helter Skelter. A hug to you,

Innovation should have nothing to do with musical opinions. I won't instantly enjoy a song more knowing it was important somehow. That's just silly.

^ Then it's a matter of how tastefully innovation was handled.

hahahaha DisgruntedPT, I love the word silly and do agree too with you, however I was only trying to defend the beatles as in why I think highly of them, obviously not because of innovation but for everything they did, their moozik

Not so sure about "Helter Skelter"... it may be a bit crazy, heavy even, but it doesn't sound so much "Heavy Metal" to me... however, "She's so Heavy", yeah, that one almost sounds like metal to me. |
