Yes Tom, definitely get the new one, it really is excellent and one of my favourite albums of the year.

The previous album Happiness Is The Road I also like a lot (I tend to like double albums a lot, something about being a proggie I guess).  It's not all great, there are a few weak songs, but the highlights are truly fabulous.  I'm thinking especially the title track, This Train Is My Life, The Man From The Planet Marzipan and Real Tears For Sale.  Those four songs would grace any Marillion album.

Somewhere Else is a fine album too, but somehow just doesn't seem to quite have the same feel as other recent albums, perhaps due to the fact it wasn't self-released.  It's well worth getting, though I don't think it's generally that popular with the hardcore fans (am I right?).  It features my number 3 favourite Marillion track of all, The Wound, what an incredible piece of music that is.

Marillion released an album called "Best Live" a short time ago (2 CD live compilation). Burning Shed just announced that it will be available as a 4 LP set with booklet in late January. 

Am I on dope, or did Marillion's new album totally miss their top 100? Um, seriously?

Actually, PA and I agree that the best album of the year was the new Big Big Train; however, thought the new Marillion should be there somewhere.

I actually got Sounds That Can't Be Made for Christmas, I've only listened to it once, but I already knew the songs Power and The Sky Above The Rain.

It is also not Magma, Opeth or Kayo Dot, and fans of those bands make up an unordinarily large portion of PA and tend to hate anything Neo.

My personal favourites of the year are Sylvan's and IO Earth, with STCBM a very, very close third. There is, I am afraid, an inherent bias on this site against Hogarth era Marillion, and it is one of the worst aspects of the site. If only people would just sit down, give it a listen, and appreciate it for what it is, that is an incredible band stretching all of the progressive boundaries. I can see the replies now. "It's not Fish, though". Baaaah

One of the reasons why I'm sticking closer to either Facebook or Progressive Ears and have slowly drifted from PA. You have a pretty 50/50 split between the Fish and Hogarth fans over there.
