Oh, Pierre, I quite enjoy that Architrave Indipendente album! I think it's only available on vinyl, correct?

For those not aware of it, here's the album:

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=25821

It's got a frequently very tasteful acoustic sound with quite youthful vocals! That's what I remember, I probably haven't listened to it for a year now!

I'm going to go and dig it out right now and give it a few spins later on!

Oh, I've got the vinyl, so I wouldn't buy it again on CD!

But I think when it was first released, it was a definate statement by the band only releasing it on LP! I wonder if that sort of limited it's exposure, and why it's so unrecognised - only a handful of reviews for it too. Maybe I should write a positive review of it myself!

I hope we get a second album from them sometime!

All are high in my list too. I would add Maxophone, Palepoli, Balletto and well...how can you not include at least one album from PFM and Banco.

One of the first RPI albums I purchased actually.

I know of Osanna but have not heard them yet, but they are on the list.  Actually listening to it now on Youtube. It is starting out like it is going to be a wild ride!

It is hard for me to pick any #1 in any genre I like, but for RPI (of my dozen or so albums I have so far) it would be that first magical moment listening to my first RPI album by PFM, Per Un Amico.  It was like a kid on Christmas morning with new toys...Smile, just full of delight.  More than likely, it could have been just about any of albums I have so far if I had listened to them first instead.

No "new" RPI yet, but was thinking about one from Todd's suggestions, Egnon.

Here is the Osanna link if needed.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FANL8exoo1U

AEP, no better place to sample a great modern RPI album than right here:

Gran Turismo Veloce

Pretty sure Pierre, Jim and Todd were all very impressed with this one too! I'd love to know what you think of it!

PRUDENTE OSCAR : UN ESSERE UMANO (1972)

A very nice singer song album that I didn't know, close in certain ways to Battisti. I prefer this one to "Poco prima dell'aurora" with Fossati.
The next one and electric "Infinite Fortune" 1974 is very good too.

AEP, the Gran Tuirsmo Veloce is a very nice album. It could have been great without (yes once again) that damned metal guitar. Unfortunately  many of the modern RPI's guitarists ( not Adharma, Akt and Architrave Ind) have more listened to Kiss, Rush and Metallica than Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Adrian Belew and Arto Lindsay. After all, in 1979, the Talking Heads had used the talent of some of these guys. Perhaps the modern RPI should appeal to the new wave of electronic musicians to really claim its name of modern RPI ? Just a suggestion. Smile

Hmmm, yes, I suppose a few sections of the Gran Turismo Veloce album has slightly heavier guitar moments, but it's not all the way through. I guess it's meant to appeal to younger listeners? I did think that album had youthful appeal mixed in the proper RPI inflences - perhaps the RPI way of the future for the younger bands, a nice mix of both?

Anyway, Pierre, you, Jim and Todd kind of inspired me to dig out that `Architrave Independente' album and give it a few spins, I just put up a very positive review of it! Thanks for the reminder of how great that album is!

I must say I really enjoyed this on first listen and is added to my "to get" list!  I thought it retained much of the early RPI symphonic influences (that I have heard anyway) without having "too" much metal influence.  Thanks Aussie!

I have seen the mention of the electric or metal in previous pages of this thread and was curious of what or how much this was referring to. This one was just about right (for me) and was done tastefully for the most part.  I do not prefer extreme metal or shredding in my prog and can see what Hello (Pierre) was referring to.

Oh, I like the idea of Jim's Hump Day classics or threesomes.  Been a long on the road week thus far and a good way to unwind, hope I can get to all of them before passing out...Smile

Jim!

The `Festa Mobile' album is a bit of a minor favourite of mine! Just haven't listened to it in a couple of years! Going to dig it out now!! I bought a vinyl reissue a few years back, what a great album!

I haven't listented to the Metamorphosi one too much yet....I'll get back to you on that one.

I haven't heard that last one - IL PAESE DEI BALOCCHI - so I'll give a bigger search on Youtbue for some clips!

Thanks for the suggestions!

update - I HAVE heard that `Il Paese...' album (I recognised the album cover when I looked it up), and for some strange reason I passed on the recent vinyl reissue...

I remember it sounding very classical sounding, lots of long floating sections, almost ambient? Perhaps I should give it a few more listens...

Just wake up. Many posts and good music ! IL PAESE DEI BALOCCCHI is one of the most mysterious and intense album of 70's RPI. I love it.

I'm sure you're gonna like that Paese album Michael. Very good album, very classical inspired.

I personally had a hard time getting into it but I did eventually. And yes it is a little ambienty at times.
