If Obama had an R by his name, the liberals would be burning him at the proverbial stake. It's quite amusing, actually.

BAAAH! Wrong. Denial - 1st stage of grief at work right there. Fox News, propaganda machine that they are, are the #1 cable news channel! The #1 newspaper is the Wall Street Journal, and is owned by the same guy who owns Fox News - it has a right-wing slant. The #1 talk radio show is Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity is #2, and Glenn Beck is #3. Yup, the liberal media won this for Obama...makes sooo much sense now, doesn't it.... |
You're not seriously gonna try to make the case that one cable channel and some radio honkers equal the power of the balance of the 24/7 national and local medias, late night shows, daytime talk shows, the schools and colleges, pumping people full of barely concealed, feel good liberalism morning till night.....while doing everything they can to make conservatives and conservative ideas seem strange, nasty, terrible, etc.... I'm not saying that the media being 98% in the tank for Obama "won the election" but it sure as hell helps convince those who aren't aware of the biases. Oh and you mentioned "hope" before. My hope is not diminished by these
results, though it may be by other things. I still have hope because I
don't believe this election was a repudiation of conservatism in the
way the media does. I believe it was the result of a candidate who had
trouble appealing to many and came up a bit short in 4 states, while
his opponent is liked by many and promised the goodies for all. Romney
got beat, outfoxed, fair and square and your guy is to be commended for
it. But the howls of doom in the media are just silly in my view, which
is why I couldn't give a sh*t what Frum thinks. I've seen the howling
all week and I'm not impressed with much of it. It's one huge echo. We'll see what happens though, if Biden beats Rubio in 2016 I'll owe you a beer.

Mitt had a great line at the Al Smith dinner....where he and the president take turns telling jokes. Going from memory, but Mitt basically said. ....this is a nice evening for the president and I to relax and hang out with all of these wonderful people in the room, share some dinner and conversation before the last leg of the campaign.....
Tomorrow the headlines will read....."Obama breaks bread with religious leaders" "Romney dines with rich people"

I don't care for Frum and certainly do not need him. I fully understand why Mittens lost and have been speaking to that from the moment he had the republican nomination wrapped up.

No, Obama did insanely well with the media this campaign, if only because it was probably the cleanest and most neutral campaign for a candidate...almost ever. How many gaffes did Obama make that caused him ridicule? Uhh.... How many times was Romney lambasted? Are we talking how many times each day, cause...yeesh. That's basically because Obama played the grey man and let Romney f**k his own campaign up. he was the anti-John Kerry.

I think it goes much deeper than gaffe coverage, it is deep and institutional imo. But yeah, Romney did have some foot in mouth disease going.

The Republicans would probably say pretty nice things about him. The right wing "extremists" like me would say pretty much the same thing we're saying now.

You're on!
I predict that if the R's bring out someone reasonable who is willing to change the game a bit and go beyond the usual way of doing things as a Republican, they will probably win. I mean someone like perhaps Jeb Bush (don't really know as much as I should about his policies, but I applaud him for the occasions when he's spoken out against the apocalyptic crap over the last four years). But if they continue down the "party of angry old rich white people" path, the next election will be a landslide victory for the Dems. Because the Dems beat that in a bad economy - so if things continue to get a little better over the next four years....

Speaking as a liberal. We would not want a McCain or a Romney Instead. We may have problems with some of the things he's done as president. We aren't the morons that you think we are. You debase yourself with that comment.

It's the "selective sins" approach to "gotcha", Slarti. Some pages back, during the campaign, I posted a list of dozens of accomplishments by Obama with links, the majority of which would not be part of any Republican administration I have ever suffered through . But these were deflected because they were not taking the discussion in the direction in which the other party intended. Politics is, unfortunately, all about compromise. If you can find a party/leader whose entire philosophy meshes with your own, and then actually vote that party/leader into power to see their behavior continue to mesh with your ideal, then you are very lucky indeed.
