Ah, now here is a very, very interesting question. I believe that the reason the Republican party lost in a situation where everyone was saying they should be able to win (first president to win a 2nd term with the unemployment rate being what it is) was that they have been, as David Frum put it, fleecing, exploiting, and lying to the conservatives of our nation and leading them to believe that a good man WAS Hitler. They have lost all credibility. I have been saying this for years, and the response that always comes back is "well, Democrats lie too." But in the video/story I posted a link to (which was ignored), you have a warrior from within your own ranks calling out the lies. I truly believe that had Romney won, it would have been a victory for hate, fear, and lies. And this does not come from a "blue dog Democrat", this comes from a former Republican who saw the lies at work within himself and was disgusted. |

Liars who tell nicer lies. It's easier to swallow "you will receive this and that" than "you have to work for this and that".
Not that Romney really ever said the latter anyway... |

You are a fool who think it is about "winning" or "losing". Enjoy your very expensive team-sports triumph.

If I didn't enjoy losing, why would I support a party that cannot even get 5% of the vote?

Yes, I take and take and take, while I send several hundred dollars to the IRS every month. I'm sure Brian works too. We're middle class taxpayers just like you Rob. On the other hand, I do kind of agree with Teo. This isn't a team sport, or at least it shouldn't be, it is about doing what's best for the country. And while I don't think the best was accomplished, I do believe the better of the two realistic options available came out on top. Edited by The Doctor - November 09 2012 at 18:45 |

I am not saying that it's the worse idea ever at all, in fact I'm pretty sure I never said that, but if that's how you like to interpret things then go a head because there is nothing I could possibly say to persuade you otherwise.
I think it's a pretty neat idea, but I do accept that what you have in the USA is neither a neat idea nor is it universal health care.

We could just do what I do when I get too much in debt. Get a new Social Security Number and change our name. Then our creditors will never be able to find us. ![]() |

The Five Stages of GOP Grief
This is a really thoughtful article, and the Republican party would do well to pay attention to the advice within. |

The GOP did put forth a few good presidents. Now it's just a party of spoiled little rich kids.

Quoted for truth! Hey, I posted this in the GOP thread, and it was pretty much ignored. David Frum on MSNBC But this is AMAZING - in this video, you have a member of the GOP ranks (he wrote speeches for George Bush) stepping out and giving them a SCATHING criticism, and doing so on MSNBC! Arguably the most liberal news organization out there! And in it he says that conservatives have been "fleeced, exploited, and lied to be a conservative entertainment complex." OH MY GOSH! THAT IS SO AWESOME! I've been saying for years that there are far more lies coming from the Republican side than Liberals, and I have been written off - well, my mother in law (who is a birther) always likes to say "consider the source." Yup - consider the source. This is a warrior from your own ranks going on the most liberal news organization and saying that your side has been lying - I think that this implies that he believes MSNBC has not been lying the same way that he is talking about. Oh man, that video is so beautiful. |

May will agree that the best GOP president in the post-war history was Mr. Eisenhower. As described in the Parable of the 6 Phases of a Project, 'It's time to punish the innocent and to reward the non-participants'. |

In my opinion, the best course for the GOP is to go through, as the sports teams call it, "a rebuilding phase".
The majority of traditional Republicans are good people, and have some good ideas for the country. Unfortunately, in recent years they have been getting shouted down by the extremists. While these people, which include the Nordquist tax hard-liners, the Tea Party me-firsters, and the religious extremists should not be booted out of the party (although if they left the Republicans to form their own party it would not be a terrible thing), the Republicans should go back to their old ways of fiscal sanity without the extemism.
But then again, that would make them Democrats.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.
