Oh yeah...dueling or doubling sax and guitar, I don't think I have ever heard that combo...awesome! I wondered what his Avatar was, thanks for sharing. I read Todd's review on this and at the beginning he indicated buying over 200 RPI albums in a year, I think I am heading down that path .

Thank You hellogoodbye. Japanese Super High Material, that's going to be expensive And, yes thats the cover I rembered. And the new Alphataurus is marvelous (spinning it the 3 time now in a row). If any old UK band would come up with a comeback like this, the whole prog world would be raving. But so it will be only those few RPI addicts.....

One of the many great ones. Maybe one should make a list of the bad albums from that time, it would be much shorter than a list of the good ones I was browsing through the RPI book of Paolo Barotto / Marco D'Ubaldo (covers only) this evening, and although I keep buying RPI albums by the douzen, this barrel once opened is botemless, and that is a very good thing.

I haven't bought this book or any other, not to fill my head with names and leave place to the music. The last two years I bought about 200 albums, mainly from the seventies. What I still have to discover exists only in vinyl and I expect a CD reissue of bands like Barraba, Gramigna, I Boom etc. As you say, the list is long.

I've touched on this many times. The bigshot UK bands often make lame comeback albums because they are either tapped creatively or have dollar signs in their eyes. The old Italian bands make great comeback albums because 1) most of them only made one album so there are still plenty of good ideas in the tank...and 2) they are doing it for love of music, not money. Just my opinion of course but to me it explains why the old RPI bands almost always deliver. Edited by Finnforest - October 08 2012 at 18:56 |

You're absolutely right, Jim. I've never felt the smell of money in RPI, even in the biggest productions.
I think of Le Orme's album: Florian. It was in 1979 and everyone was standing up to scream or jump in the air. At that time, Le Orme decided to sit at the terrace of a café to have a private musical discussion. I love them for that.

I agree. It could seems a Le Orme's unplugged album, but it represents a fearless effort toward new musical directions.

The next one : PICCOLA RAPSODIA DELL'APE (With the worst cover ever), is nice too. It hasn't the same reputation than Florian, but I learned to like it a lot. For me these two albums are 'The Beatles albums" of the band and the best way for Le Orme to answer with its own words to the english new wave.

I see your point here but I disagree. For me the worst ever Le Orme's cover (and album) is the self titled 1990's record. ... and yes, Piccola Rapsodia dell'Ape is still recommendable (well, if you like Florian). Edited by Andrea Cortese - October 09 2012 at 15:47 |

eh ehe he h, as fellow reviewer Clarke2001 said: "The album is horrible. That is, the songwriting is horrible, the melodies are forgettable, the sounds are dreadful" ... and "This is not only an album that deserves the lowest rating; this is one of the worst albums I heard in my life"!!! ZowieZiggy even declared: "Still, this one doesn't deserves more than one star (and this is even overrated)"!!! |

How about the new Mangala Vallis?
I bought it the last week and... well... it sounds pure neo-prog to my ears... excellent, btw. |

Yes, I read those reviews. Terrible. I noticed that sometimes the best groups make the worst albums, To add a positive word I would say that I like their 77 album : Storia o Leggenda, especially the songs "Un angelo" and "Al mercato Delle Pucci."

Pierre and Andrea, I think this period of Le Orme is underrated. I also think their 90s-10s period is underrated! Lots of lesser known material out there.
