Well, I wouldn't say it was directly in response to that discussion, but I guess kind of inspired by that.  Steve (HolyMoly) did pretty much hit it on the head with his assessment of this thread though.  A very well put assessment of what's going on in this thread, and I liked the "take that you dogs, haha" part.  LOL Clap

Steve is a mind-reader.  LOL

It's sad when music is categorized as a science, were everything is carefully calculated and there must be only one answer, and that's the one, basically speaking.

If Mike were the greatest drummer around, he wouldn't been playing with Dream Theater. FACT.

If I were the greatest drummer in the world, I would have been in line for those DT auditions.

If I were the greatest drummer in the world, I would be playing with various bands. Jazz, electronics, rock, minimalism, cumbia, fusion, folk, salsa, afrobeat, EVERYTHING, because I would be the best and I could play everything. Hell yeah.
Also, if I were the greatest drummer, I would know piano and other instruments, and make a solo album with me playing many instruments, not necessarily playing the drums.

That's a lot of IF I WERE statements there...seems to me you don't really KNOW what you'd do if you were the greatest because you're NOT!  Because......MIKE MANGINI IS!  HA!  LOL

The greatest drummer in the world would probably choose not to play because he would not find it challenging or interesting enough. He is probably some old guy playing chess in Central Park.

Anyone can play chess.  Not everyone can win.

Think about it, if you joined Dream Theater you would get the chance to play with some of the greatest musicians in the world AND have enough money to fund all your other musical projects for the rest of your life.

Quite amusing that a post with a nonsensical proposition attracts a volume of replies (including mine!).
