Dawn of War II: 4/10. Wants to be a squad-based tactical game... minus the pausing. Controls are bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, and unforgivable. Entering buildings causes your squad to be deselected. You can't leave a building without taking all of your squads out of it. Attempting to select anything without using the hotkeys will result in disaster, with your force commander usually being selected even all the way across the map. Hotkeys seem to be assigned haphazardly. Arbitrarily decides when to use right click and when to use right -- you try to activate a skill and you can't move or attack with right click, but you cannot use right click to use the skill, instead being locked out of doing anything except left click to use it or hit ESC to cancel. Repeatedly throws bosses (whaaaa?) at you who have insane amounts of health and who are inexplicably able to resurrect themselves. If the game crashes -- and it does -- the game considers your mission a failure and drops you two "days" behind. Bad design decisions abound.
//EDIT: Oh, and there's no mid-mission save for missions that last upwards of a f**king hour. Something comes up? Find yourself an extra hour or the game considers you to have failed the mission. Edited by Gamemako - September 03 2012 at 20:09 |

To all the retro-gamers:
I found this video on YouTube. Not sure if a lot of people have seen it, but I think it's awesome and hilarious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdWRTleizFU&feature=g-vrec ^ Not exactly a discussion, but this guy surely does discuss glitches of old games.

Ys: Origin now has a demo on Steam. Try it. I put it on Hard and finished the demo in 10 minutes, but it will probably take you 30 minutes at least.
A few things to know: 1) You really, really want a gamepad for this. You can do it with keyboard only, but it feels a bit odd. 2) You can charge up your skills to have greater effects 3) A few less-obvious notes about skills: Yunica: Green keeps you in the air, yellow makes you invulnerable for the duration of the attack, red replaces your axe with a slower, longer-range greatsword Hugo: Green keeps you in the air and protects you from 1 (uncharged) or 2 (charged) hits, charged yellow bombs detonate when you hit the skill button again |

I think I still have the BF1942 disc around here somewhere. Gods, that game is 10 years old now. I don't think I've touched it since 2005 or so. I pretty much gave up competitive games some time back. |

I've been playing two games lately; Borderlands 2 and Torchlight 2. TL2 has been getting more play though, because Borderlands has been having some issues for me (post-release glitchiness and such, relatively annoying). Both are a ton of fun, in my opinion. Torchlight 2 is possibly more enjoyable than Diablo 3, Borderlands 2 is already more funny and fun than Borderlands 1.

Nice. I think 2 is about 20 times as good as 1, honestly, and I really enjoyed 1.

Saints Row: The Third free weekend.
This game. Is bonkers. You can run around streaking and beating people to death with a giant purple dildo called The Penetrator. That's all you need to know about Saint's Row: The Third. |

There is a Borderlands 2 Easter egg in Torchlight 2, I found it yesterday while playing...be sure to look for it yourselves! It was silly.

I did the 21 assassinations you get prior to actually doing any of the storyline. Some old hag being a prudish church-goer? Lure her out with yer bare arse and give her a good beating with The Penetrator. Then there was the guy who was running around in Spandex thinking himself a superhero, so I lured him out by robbing a business I owned, instantly dropping the cops by walking back into the store, and then repeatedly smashed his nuts with a shotgun. Not to mention the 2-mile run I had going down the wrong side of the road, the gang operation I ended by throwing a flaming car at it (thanks, coppers), the Murder Time Fun Time-- Also, there's Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Dear Hunter on the radio stations. |

...and Mastodon, Talk Talk, Deftones. Lots of other good things. Some of that French rap is pretty catchy or at least hilarious.

Tried the Torchlight 2 demo. I don't know why I was expecting a challenge from something as rudimentary as Torchlight, but it was pretty impressively simplistic. Played a Berserker on Elite (highest difficulty available). Didn't need HP potions. Didn't need two hands. One button attacks a dozen opponents at once and heals you for 22.5% of your max HP -- and has a 1-second cooldown timer. I ended up with 8 unused skill points because I only put 2 other points into things -- the default point which I never removed and another skill that recovers 5% of my HP on crit. I'm not sure how you're supposed to die when that's the highest difficulty and I put 0 points into Vitality.
Then I tried an Outlander and immediately quit out of frustration for the attack button being the same as the move button. Edited by Gamemako - September 27 2012 at 10:10 |

Been playing Diablo 3 for some time now, hardcore mode. I died with one of my lvl 60 characters a couple days ago, can take the momentum out of playing, but it let me focus in on my barbarian, who is now sitting pretty good. Anyone else play D3/hardcore? New patch is in testing and looks fairly decent, some nerfs but not too bad.
