Well, Alonso still leads by an alright amount and most amazing of all...that podium speech from Kimi was surprisingly un painful! Dare I say there were even detectable amounts of life??

Jenson to Kimi: "Good fight with Michael?" "Pfffffffffft, we've got no speed." I'd say Alonso's luck still held as that could have been a far more serious accident. Grosjean needs a real talking to, he's very fast and a good race but he keeps running into people at the start. Obvious jump start from Maldonado, the irony is that if he'd had a normal one he might have been able to avoid the carnage at La Source instead of being turned around by Perez's broken car. Great race all round, I think Vettel has now proved beyond a doubt that he can race wheel to wheel to with cars going just as fast, something that he hasnt been too good at in the past. Amazing drive by Hulkenberg, who would have thought a Force India would have been fighting with Ferrari, Lotus and Red Bull?

Well that is true, poor race luck but certainly good not dying luck. Despite what I assumed at first, Force India has been a pretty solid team over its career. This year is just nuts though, with so many point contending teams and the tops not that far ahead! We've seen from McLaren and RBR they are prone to random poor races. Ferrari seems to have gotten itself on track but I'm sure they are no clear frontrunner. Just been epic.

Snowie beat me to it, Grosjean gets a 1 race ban and a 50 000 euro fine. Maldonado gets a 5 place penalty for jumping the start and a 5 place penalty for running into Glock on the restart (TV cameras didnt show it but I was wondering how he'd lost the front wing to put him out).
Jerome D'Ambrosio is Lotus test driver, but I'd put Algersuari in the car for Monza as he's the Pirelli test driver and more likely to be match fit than Jerome as he's actually driven an F1 car this year.

Nice, since I'm totally neutral on both I go to my "who has a cooler name?" but both are pretty sweet so I don't care Rough one for Pastor but while he has proven to have some good speed he's another that needs to quit being so stupid.

I'm going to defend Grosjean here, I think he really thought he was ahead of Lewis, we have 1st turn incidents in many races and the drivers causing them do not usually get penalties or at least not so severe ones.
For sure it was a shame as it took off the race some of the top drivers but I'd say that this is racing and no different from many other 1st turn accidents.
Maldonado is something else though...

^I think you are totally wrong. Whatever he thought, he was in the wrong place. A totally justifiable punishment.

Sure enough he was in the wrong place, but if the same had happened in the mid / back of the field, let's say a Toro Rosso clipping a Caterham and kicking out of the race Senna, Pic, Petrov and De La Rosa, nobody would have cared about it.
Of course I understand that those fighting with championship contenders must be extra careful but even so I think that the penalty is a bit too harsh.

^I have to disagree, there's a difference between knocking off a wing through slight misjudgement and showing such a complete lack of awareness as to who's around you so that you push someone off the track and cause a massive accident. Which end of the field doesnt factor into it, if any thing history shows that the backmarkers are more likely to get penalised than the front runners.
EDIT: And it seems that he's accepting responsabiltiy for the crash as well now. Wish Maldonado would take that attitude.

Yeah Grosjean really copped out at first.
It was 100% Grosjean's doing but I actually didn't think it was that grave or blatant. Thought the punishment was a bit much but what can ya do?

Definitely not blatent but a bad mistake all the same. I think he was in the same sort of position as Maldonado, he's made several similar mistakes so he's going to get punished for it. This one just happened to be a far more serious mistake so the punishement was quite strong.

Also, Hunter-Reay wins again setting up a title showdown with Will Power at the Fontana Speedway final. I havent seen an Indy style race on a 2 mile oval since the slipstreamer epics of the CART days, should be interesting to see how the new car goes.

Unfortunately missed the race at spa, and seems I missed a fairly crazy one. At least Monza is soon.

^You certainly did. Lotus have confirmed that Jerome d'Ambrosio will replace Grosjean this weekend. I also predict that Maldonado will pick up a ban for Singapore for doing domething stupid, again. That boy just doesnt learn.

Forgot to mention earlier in the week, congratulations to Alex Zanardi who won gold in the paralymipcs in the hand cycling time trial at Brands Hatch, he's also going for gold today in the road race and tomorrow in the relay.
Also just found out that Robert Kubica intends to return to competition tomorrow on a rally in Italy in a Subaru Impreza WRC.

That is sufficiently awesome. Either way I'd be supremely satisfied: It'd be great to see Power get a title, but Hunter-Reay would awesome and would be sweet to see an American win Indy.

It may just be the semi wanna be Tifosi in me, but I expect Ferrari to do well at Monza. Sounds like a good practice for Alonso and Massa but we know that doesn't exactly mean much.

^Of more concern was that Alonso had an engine failure in first practice (not a big surprise, they use engines that have allready raced and are at the end of their life for practice sessions, and Monza is a hard track for engines) and then a gearbox failure in the afternoon (we'll see if he gets a penalty on that one).
