Tigers beat the Angels 5 - 1 today. Not in attendance today, but didn't really get much work done as I was listening to the game.  Probably should have just taken the afternoon off and gone, except that it was kind of a crappy, rainy day all day and I sit through enough of those kind of games.

Lucky you guys to have any amount of rain. That is a commodity that we haven't seen in St Louis for quite some time.

It has been a very dry summer for us too.  We had some big storms roll through about 3 weeks ago, and then nothing until the last two days.  I am sure that our lawns are doing big time happy dances today though.

Hopefully not for long though. Evil Smile

Of course, I'd prefer to not be missing Votto for 3-4 weeks too. Unhappy

Another brilliant trade by the Mariners front office.....Send Ichiro to the NYY for 2 no name minor league pitchers and some cash.

1) Hopefully the Ms can flip these 2 guys for some offense as they have enough pitchers now
2) At least Ichiro will have a legit shot at a WS ring.....the Ms are 5yrs away from even thinking of a WS team.

I think the Mariners realized that it's time to actually focus on rebuilding, rather than trying to put it off until the next season. I do agree that trading your franchise player for prospects doesn't make a lot of sense though.

^ Well reports are that he asked to be traded over a week ago. Which makes more sense than the Ms making the 1st move.....Ichiro is close to ending his career and I am sure he wants a good chance for a WS ring.

I don't think he moved his family to the US to play for a team that always was in the toilet.

That was kind of sad news to see Ichiro traded to the evil empire.  It seems like it was quite the bargain since both of the pitching "prospects" that the Yankees sent are 25 years old, but I really don't know anything about them.

I have mixed feelings on the trade that the Tigers pulled off.  I am quite worried that trading Jacob Turner will come back to bite us in the ass similar to the infamous John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander trade that we made in 1987.  Hopefully, Anibel Sanchez comes in and pitches like Fister did last year; more concerned that he comes in and pitches like Jarrod Washburn did 2 years ago.  I am glad that we added Omar Infante at 2nd base since that position has been quite awful for us since we let Placido Polanco leave as a free agent to the Phillies.  Still, no comparison to the 2nd basemen that the Yankees, Rangers, and Red Sox have.

It is beginning to look as though the Tigers have a good shot at winning the AL Central, as was expected at the beginning of the year, but looked like it wasn't going to happen for most of the 1st half of the season.  I just don't think that the Tigers can compete with the Yankees or Rangers at this point though.  I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.

We still do not know anything about them.....I'm not concerned about loosing Ichiro, he needs a legit chance to get a WS ring, he deserves that.....Amazing ball player.

What still gets me is the trades the front office makes sometimes.....Unless their is something still looming but I doubt it, who really wants to come play here? And these 2 pitchers, not even sure if anyone wants them. And unless we got like $10 million, the cash means nothing we got for Ichiro.

I'd like to point out that I'm tired of hearing from national broadcasters/syndicated columnists that the NL Central is one of if not the weakest divisions in baseball. We have 3 teams in the Reds, Cards, and Pirates who are all well in the hunt for playoff spots, and at least 2 of those teams will probably make the playoffs (it's possible all 3 of them could, but I highly doubt that's going to happen). Granted, the rest of the NL Central is pretty much in the cellar. But to have 3 quality (don't want to say "great" yet since we're still a bit of a ways off from October) teams in the same division eyeing a trip to the playoffs at the end of July should say something about one's division.

I can say that excluding the original trade for Cliff Lee, I hate everything Ruben Amaro Jr. has done on that front. The guy has no idea how to properly get value for prospects or players.

Liking the Buccos chances of finally breaking the streak. McCutch for MVP. The guy is having a career season when the Buccos need it the most.

22 more wins and it's done.

What's the deal?  The Mariners trade Ichiro, and then go on and win 7 games in a row.

Can't say Ichiro was holding them back but he is a shadow of his former self. I'd like to see him get to 3K in hits but it is very unlikely at this stage of his career. HOF player, possibly. He'd be the first Japanese player in the HOF.

4 days on a row of the Tigers vs the Evil Empire.  Here's hoping that the Tigers continue their home winning ways and the Evil Empire continue with their current losing ways.  Verlander vs Nova tonight.  Should be a great matchup!

Buccos win 2 in a row. Hoping they sweep the D'backs and have a good homestand. Counting down the wins to break the streak.

The Tigers had a great 7 to 2 win over the Evil Empire last night.  Verlander struck out 14 of those guys, including Granderson 3 times.  Rick Porcello vs Phil Hughes tonight.  The Tigers have made Phil Hughes look like a Hall of Famer in previous outings, so it could be a dicey one tonight.

The Tigers beat the Evil Empire again last night 6 to 5, in spite of the best efforts of Jose Valverde to give the game away.  I really hate leaving a game that we won in a pissed off mood and yesterday was one of those games.  The Tigers took a 6 to 3 lead into the 9th and Valverde proceeded to give up 2 runs and the Evil Empire had guys on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and former Tiger Curtis Granderson at the plate.  First pitch, Granderson ripped a shot down the line that was just foul (from our seats in right-center there was no way of telling until the umpire called it foul.)  He got Granderson to pop out a mile high to Fielder to end the game but by that point the entire crowd was spitting bullets and booing Valverde for every ball that he threw.  33 pitches thrown and almost half of them were balls.  On a side note, Ibanez had a great at-bat to draw a walk after falling behind 0 balls and 2 strikes.  He fouled off at least 4 pitches in the process.
