It's up against Usher (and less significantly in commercial terms, Fiona Apple and Motion City Soundtrack, also Now That's What I Call Country 5).
To be honest, I don't think Rush will take Usher out. (I have to admit I used to like Usher back in the day.) Now there's a supergroup waiting to happen: Rusher. I'm kinda hoping Now That's What I Call Country 5 outsells Clockwork Angels just to see you guys react.

I think that's a bit unkind. It's a good album - better than i expected . Admittedly it's not going to win rush (m)any new fans but it is good enough to peak the interest of a few lapsed ones. Looking back at albums like Presto, Counterparts, Test for Echo etc they didn't generate the same sense of wonder so the excitement from us old guys is genuine and less likely to fade than you might expect.

I agree that there is a tendency to overrate this album at first, probably because Rush doing an album this good at this stage of their career is so unexpected and unprecedented, but it is still pretty damn good even if some are overrating it. Knee jerk reaction, I see this being a solid 4 stars when it is all said and done, not 5 like some are giving it. Almost every song is at worst very good, and many of them are great. Bands this old shouldn't be making records this good.

![]() Cheers! I hope my reviews are not too gushing, but occasionally a good ol gush over an album is not going to harm too many, I believe. I doubt I will be alone in rating it 5 stars. If it deserves it why not? 5 decades and Rush still have it! Let's celebrate it! The only 5 star albums of Rush for me are Moving Pictures, Hemispheres, A Farewell To Kings, Permanent Waves, Different Stages and now Clockwork Angels. I think thats a fair assessment and wont get too many arguments. However the 2 star albums for me are Presto, Roll the Bones and Moving Pictures LIVE! the rest sit around 3-4 stars. Rush, Night, Windows, Fire, Echoes, Trails, are all in the 3 star rating for me. Some will say they are worth more but I cant see it such was the material. Lots of great moments but a heap of mediocrity and forgettable songs wreck them. Thats not a bad record for 20 studio albums! ![]() And yes blind loyalty is typical when you like something that much and again nothing wrong with that.

![]() ![]() ![]() Again thanks! I tried to make the interview different to all the others I saw here but of course when you relate a storyline it can become a huge undertaking and that's why it was so long - also the lyrics are very important to me and I wanted to relate some of those. Believe me if I did not like the album I would not have bothered with such an in depth review as why would one want to waste time talking about a product they dislike. However, my knee jerk reaction was at first 4 stars. That only changed when I began to appreciate the in depth story and lyrical content. When all departments line up, killer music, no filler, powerful lyrics, brilliant concept and overall packaging and outstanding production, it deserves 5 stars.

I think the album to beat is Vapor Trails. That's an incredible album and my favorite since Hemispheres.

Seriously? With that horrid production? Hemispheres is the pinnacle Rush release with me as well but VT is near the bottom these days. I started liking it when I heard it in bits and pieces, but I simply can not sit down and listen to the entire thing. |

The production is bad, sure, but the compositions and performances are amazing. Hell, the production of Nursery Cryme is atrocious, but people seem like it just fine. |

^^^ NUrsery Cryme is raw but brilliant! Vapor Trails didnt do it for me either - I was just underwhelmed overall - parts are great but its not gelling with me as a whole. Love the artwork with it though.

I'm with Robert on this one. I love Vapor Trails and it sounds great to me. For me it's their best since Signals.

In this day and age, there is no excuse for poor production, especially from a band that has been around for decades, IMO. I do not find most VT compositions to be anything great, or even melodic. How It Is and One Little Victory are my favorites but the rest of the CD is mostly dogs, maybe better than Dog Years. ![]() |

I don't have a problem with VT sound....I only have the CD and I played it last night and there are a few loud portions. It is well documented by Alex they are not happy with the production.....But the album is pretty damn good IMO. There are some beast songs like Earthshine and Secret Touch. Many of the songs are excellent......for me it has that special feel since before this I really thought they were done......Thankfully they are not.
I have heard some of the digital downloaded versions and those are pretty bad, especially the iTunes version......horrid. But my CD copy when the album came out is very good on my system.

I gave it a first listen last night, and to be honest I was pretty disappointed in it. I thought that the sound was really bad and Geddy's singing was really bad. The worse part for me though was the concept. I read the lyrics along to the music while listening to it and I found it to be disappointing. I expect that my opinion will improve with further listens but that said, my first listen was a disappointment.
