Gosh, for people who claim to be so tolerant, there's a venomous lack of tolerance in this thread.
Like anyone expected that to be the case though I was actually surprised it made it as far as it did (4ish pages) without yet degenerating into utter sh*t. I see the last day has taken care of that!

Epig: Note that I have never claimed to be tolerant. I'm not a tolerant person. I am intolerant of religion. But homosexuals don't mess up the world the way religion does.
Tolerance is a pretty stupid concept actually. What it means is that you allow something you think is harmful to continue unchallenged. This is actually terrible behaviour. If it's not actually harmful, then what are you tolerating? Exactly. You have to believe it's a bad thing in order to tolerate it, but if it's really a bad thing, you should be acting against it. So tolerance = bs.
Wait a second, did I just give license to homophobes to persecute homosexuals? Almost, except the problem with homophobes is that their belief that homosexuality is harmful is false, based on bad information and misconceptions. See also racists, sexists, theists, etc.
How do I prove that their information is false and mine is correct? Well, I don't. All I can tell you is that that's the conclusion I've come to based on my experience in the world. I could be wrong but I have no reason as yet to suppose I am so until that changes, these are the beliefs I'm hold.

Is there a rule that allows the closing of a thread not for being offensive, but for having the dumbest, most retarded arguments expressed in it?
There should be, but that would close down three-quarters of the whole internet.
The real difficulty with situations like this as an Admin is having to pick a side. I mean do I go with the side that has the best argument, the one that's been the least dumbest, the person who hit the report button and played the victim card first or simply the one that's ticked me off the least? And when there are four victims involved in two seperate arguments is the problem is doubled, or do I just pick one and slap the other three? I have to be careful here or I'll be accused of not being impartial, of disliking people who study law or who teach or something highly irrational like that... Of course it would a lot easier of one of the victims/combatants were blue-collar, I'd rather trust a man who works with his hands, but alas no, these are educated professional people (or those in training to be educated professional people). Or do I single out a suitable scapegoat like that young fellow-me-lad there who's contributed sod all but snarky self-portrait jpegs and leave it at that?
Of course people could just stop doing whatever it is they are doing, take a step back and just look at themselves.
See, Moderation.. a tricky business, it's not like trying to pick your favourite child... oh, wait, yes it is. Okay I know now.
I edited my posts. They can be deleted.
Sorry for clogging up the thread guys. I was up past my bed time and cranky because my research hit a wall.

Tolerance is not about keeping quiet when someone is causing harm.
It's about keeping your nose out of other's people's business unless you have a true need to intervene.
As you've said, how do you differentiate between something just being really annoying and harmful? I have a patient who smells so bad the other patients complain. That's a hard one, as this poor woman is blind and arthritic, but you get the point.
But "tolerance" mean the burden is on you to really convince yourself that it's necessary to stick your nose in rather than it being ok to spout your opinion on anything and everything.
You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

And yet nobody has realized that this thread was never about or thought on gay rights but our thoughs on gay rights... So much for nothing.
Anyway, Don Quijote wasn't gay and neither was Sancho. But Dulcinea (Aldonza) was, and that's why she didn't pay attention to the Hidalgo, because the latter didn't really have any thoughs about gay rights.

It was marching well T, members were giving, their legal, religious and moral reasons, but somebody ruined it starting with sarcasm and ending with low insults.

In my own judgement no, but to your judgement I am.
I am satisfied that religion is a bad thing and should be acted against. You are satisfied that religion is a good thing and so therefore anyone against it such as myself has the wrong information.
