I’m not into chess theory, but it seems to me that most of you (actually all of you except Colin) are too careless with your pawns. Remember it’s the only piece you can’t move back. I’ve been looking at your last game, Vomps and Colin, and I can’t say excatly where you lost, Vomps, but I think that 4. …h6 looks bad (Bc5 is surely better?), and 6 …exd4 must be a mistake, and 8. … c5 looks terrible since it makes d6 a very vulnerable spot. 9. …h5 doesn’t make it any better, and when I look at it now, I think you had already lost at that point.

Only my thoughts. Peace and love and good chess!

I'm not into chess theory, because it does nothing but reveal two slight variables: when I suck and when I suck less.

The more I've been looking at games between very good players the more I realize that the way I play my openings is pretty terrible. Cry

Basically 90% of my opening moves focus on control of the center

Aaron, I ran a chess.com analysis on our game.  According to their engine, the big game-changing moves were 27. ...Rb5?? and 33. ... Ka7??.  Beyond that it was mostly pretty solid play.

Says 4 inaccuracies for me, 2 blunders and a mistake for you.

A mate was pretty inevitable, but if you had killed my bishop you would have at least held it off for a while

I’ve been looking through your game, and it seems to me that 5. … d6 was a weak move, leading to Alec getting a doubled pawn.

http://www.101chesstips.com/doubled-pawns.jsp#

I think 5. … Qe7 looks better, but I’m not sure what would have happened later. The double pawn weakness was revealed when Colin played 15. Qxc5. Then 17. d5 was more or less decisive since Alec lost a knight.

It’s sooo much easier to see these things after the game is over, of course.

Hey guys, just found this thread. I've been getting really into chess lately and I'd love to play with some PA folk. My handle on chess.com is VanVanVan99 if anyone's interested. Smile

I don't see you on chess.com   by the name   VanVanVan99 ?

Hm. Confused It looks like some people have been having trouble with the search function, and I'd guess that's the case since that's the correct spelling and whatnot. What's your handle? I can see if I can find you instead.

It seems I continue to wantonly through pieces away... perhaps one of these days I'll learn to look at the board before I move. Head on wall

Good thing it's just a game, eh? LOL

Nah, it's just he didn't notice my bishop across the board before taking one of my pieces with his queen

This is kind of annoying because there's way I can lose now but I don't know how to do this with as few moves as possible.

I suppose you mean there’s no way you can lose.

Indeed I do . Even draw is highly unlikely (and was about 20 moves ago too), the only trouble is that I'm not very good at mating (if you know what I mean). Wink
