..for us newbies around these parts, so here's mine.

I'm a newbie when it comes to this forum, this site (which is brilliant btw, it has everything a prog newbie needs) and to prog in general.

I've never appreciated what's been considered popular music in my days; R 'n' B, trance, pop rock a la Maroon 5 (or Moron 5, as I call them) or whatever, and I've allways looked back in time, to older music, from the 60's (mostly), 70's (lately) and 80's (briefly), to find the music I like, unlike most of my friends growing up. My parents haven't been great music mentors to me either, I must say (though my mother loves The Beatles and my father has a thing for Pink Floyds The Wall (which I (still) think is overrated)), at least not when it comes to prog, so you could say I've allways gone my own way when it comes to music.

My first favourite band, if you could call it that (I wouldWink), was The Beatles, and after that I had a thing for The Doors. My first true music love was Led Zeppelin, especially No Quarter caught my ear (go figureWink). After that I went through a Lynyrd Skynyrd phase (love their 70's albums), before stumbling upon a commercial for a Jethro Tull compilation album on TV. Deciding to explore their 70's stuff changed my life.

JT was my first real introduction to prog, and my love for their music (from the 70's especially) made me decide to explore the music genre of prog rock in greater debt. Several recommendations from friends and colleagues on Genesis gave me a great starting point, and the snowball has just rolled on from there.

My favourite prog bands (so far) are Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, Genesis, Uriah Heep, King Crimson, Yes, QVL and ELP, to name a few. Pink Floyd, Camel and VDGG are other bands I've listened to a lot, but I still need to listen to them some more before I can say that I like them a lot or not. They haven't quite got to me, yet.

So, overall, I'm quite new to the genre, but I know what I like (in your wardrobe? noSmile) in prog, but I'm looking forward to getting recommendations on some new (and older) stuff from all you guys and gals (yes, I know you're out there, lurking around this forum, I've seen you, with your bald heads and what notsWink), and I'm going to get started on reviewing some albums of my own sooner rather then later, so you can count on hearing a lot from me in the future.

I'll end this (rather lenghty, sorry about thatEmbarrassed) introduction of myself by sayin' that I'm over the moon (yes, even the dark side of it) about finding this site. It feels like I've finally come home.

Heisann og takk! Jeg veit, har brukt mye tid og penger allerede. Begynner å bli en smule bekymretWink

Thanks again. I've listened to a lot of Elton John growing up (one of my mothers favourites). Catchy, but a little too soft for my taste, men smaken er som kjent som baken.

Btw, thought you were norwegian. Saw you in 'The Football Thread'-threadWink

Likewise, and thanks!

I've seen the long lists of artists on this site, and yes, I don't think I'll be runnin' out of new music to discover any time soon.
