Not really. You see huge concentrations of ethnicity in cities, aka ghettos. You get these situations where people aren't integrated since they stick to neighborhoods of their own race. However, the proximity forces interaction and resentment between the two groups. In an all X race city where you never see Y race, you have much less to complain about. When race X sees race Y coming into their neighborhood to do some undesirable activity, you see a flare of racism from both X and Y.

In any case though, it doesn't matter. Absent any evidence to suggest otherwise you assume a uniform distribution. That's just what you do. It would be the proper move. It's not leaving out the likelihood of anything; it's simply using the information available in the most logical way.

We have large concentrations of Italians, Indians and Pakistanis in Glasgow yet those areas could never be described as ghettos. (they are predominantly middle class low crime rate sections of the city) Have I misunderstood your usage of the term ghettos?

ghetto |ˈgetō|
noun ( pl. -tos or -toes)
a part of a city, esp. a slum area, occupied by a minority group or groups.
• historical the Jewish quarter in a city : the Warsaw Ghetto.
• an isolated or segregated group or area : the relative security of the gay ghetto.

The name need not apply to a crime infested or poor area. Historically, it did not do so. It came to be associated with  undesirable areas because of WASP xenophobia during periods of massive immigration.

Ok, I take your point that the term is now inextricably linked with it's negative connotations BUT:

From Wicki (I'm not suggesting this source as proof but just another perspective)

A ghetto is a section of a city predominantly occupied by a group who live there, especially because of social, economic, or legal issues. The term was originally used in Venice to describe the area where Jews were compelled to live. The term may refer to an overcrowded urban area often associated with specific ethnic or racial populations living below the poverty line. From a statistical perspective, ghettos are typically high crime areas relative to other parts of the city.

That a city be a cosmopolitan mixture of races doesn't necessarily mean it will be devoid of racism. Sometimes the opposite happens. Post WW1 Vienna is a good example, if a little old.

^ I agree and don't get me wrong, I'm not pretending that the ethnic mix in Glasgow is involved in a group hug every morning (We do have our racial tensions just like like any other metropolis)

There are racists of all color.
It would go a long way toward marginalizing all racists if we could accept the principles of equality through liberty.

When I said historically, I was referring to the US use of the term. Sorry that's a bit narrow of me.

You can say the word had pejorative connotations from the beginning, but it can be used in merely a descriptive context, as I was doing.

Slarti has a point.  NYC is a cosmopolitan era with a different diaspora than Western Pennsylvania.  MoM also has a point too though in regards to population.  So you need to regard both of those.

MoM's would be the null hypothesis. Slart would be the one who needs to provide evidence.

I'm not saying it's crazy to think, but I think pretty clearly the burden rests there. I can see reasons both ways for a metropolitan area. From my personal experience growing up in a poor Irish neighborhood next to a poor black, poor Spanish, and poor polish neighborhoods, I would say that familiarity between the areas bread contempt (not with me personally).

Now in FoxNews they are all crying because last night in the grammys someone had a song about exorcism and a coreography to match, this supposedly being an offense against christians and catholics (mostly) and an "abuse of the first amendment"....

Gosh... No wonder people believe anyone who watches that channel is mentally challenged...

^Oh that one would be too easy, just substitute all the first four pics for one of a totally lunatic man, leave the fifth one though instead of the flag and the people leave one man and a dog in the boat, and leave the last one intact...
