Really enjoying this album. Would have to be possibly the best album made in 1969 imo. Quite comfortably better than the previous and following albums imo. Even though it is rated worse than anything, but I don't agree with ratings here
Who's heard it? Full of fine compositions and is rated ridiculously low here

It's actually pretty good but there's some songs I find a bit ridiculous (like the first track). It's a good album that I wouldn't rate with a low mark.

Yes, I think this album follows up the previous two pretty well. It's the first of theirs I heard - had it played in a second hand record shop but they didn't want me to have it as it was very worn. Got it for 50p after much argument. Gotta love lyrics like "I know that the end of my mind is so near".

It's kind of a letdown after Heavy and In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,
but not much, fortunately. The first two ("In The Time Of Our Lives",
"Soul Experience") and last two ("Filled With Fear", "Belda Beast")
tracks are some of the best pieces the band made. I'm not too fond of
"Lonely Boy" and there's a version of "Real Fright" floating
around in the ether that I like a tad better.
Still worth getting.

Reckon it's a step up from Gadda. The Gadda song gets a bit monotonous and some of the other songs are too happy flower power 60s lol. Love Ball though. It's the best album I've heard from 1969 so far

I always liked the first two tracks from Ball. InAGaddaDaVida is horrible, Heavy being much better relatively. Their later stuff is even better, but still derivative. Always a good band, never a great one, sort of like Steppenwolf, I suppose. Regardless, part of the soundtrack of my youth. I'm no apostate and don't reject it, but I don't listen much any longer.
Can you tell me where we're headin'?
Lincoln County Road or Armageddon.

Hi,
I'll catch this sometime this weekend.
This is a band that did not survive the drugs and everything else in the time and place. LA/SF was really messed up and these people forgot the music and what it meant ... and in some cases had what amounted to "pop songs" which I think we probably pushes by the record company for a "hit" ... which never came.

Iron Butterfly is one of those bands that impressed me when I was a kid, but my tastes have changed a lot since then.
I find them terribly dated, a good band releases a good album for their era, a great band passes the test of time, and Iron Butterfly sounds less interesting than coetaneous bands like Grand Funk railroad or Steppenwolf.
Already in 1968 The Crazy World of Arthur Brown was miles ahead, and in 1969....Well, Ball was light years behind albums like In the Court of the Crimson King anything The Nice did or even Tommy.

But you're not relating to the fact that at the time, this was a long cut ... and one of the first to ever make the difference and get attention from a rock band perspective.
The hard part was that The Grateful Dead was already doing hours long versions of many things they did when they played all night and no one will ever hear those recordings! They were either boring and monotonous or everyone was too stoned or asleep to notice the music ...
Let's try Echoes and Atom Heart Mother now!
And ... I never thought that these were "monotonous" any more than Klaus Schulze is. But one thing that this is NOT, is pop music per se, and the idea was to take you away from that 3 minute orgasm and maybe enjoy a really good experience that lasted 20 minutes!
That's not "boring. That's "experience"! ... and you failed your exam!
