I've been getting some Rush albums the last few months. I have been enjoying them quiet a bit. So far, I have gotten "2112", "A Farewell to Kings", "Hemispheres", and "Moving Pictures". As soon as I'm satisfied that I've gotten into "Hemispheres" well enough, I expect to get "Permanent Waves", and thus complete the most praised albums from them. So far, at first listen each album feels a bit too familiar and similar to the previous ones I've heard, but some time later, I get the albums better and apreciate them for their individuality. I'm still waiting to get "Hemispheres" before I choose if I'll be wanting to get the rest of their discography or not... I feel it may already be too much... perhaps I'll just take some time to get some albums from other bands before returning for the rest of the Rush albums.

I made a list recently here on lists section,  "1001 Prog bands you must hear before you die!" and Rush have 13 entries.

A question...

Has anyone heard the new Rush  Time Machine   Live DVD and CD - I have the Cd and noted Geddys voice is very pitchy becasue he had a cold.

That ruins the experience and yet they brought out a DVD too. Why would they do that - why not wait till he was at his best cos thats now going to be selling worldwide and its an inferiour Rush. Very sad and I am putting off getting it on DVD.

I read a scathing review today on the CD and it is sad that the thing was ever released. I love Rush but they have to reconsider some o the plethora of Compilations churning out recently and now Live Cds.

having said that the ABC Live CD was great focussing on a classic 70s concert.

The band sound fantastic and full of energy.

Both the CD and DVD are tough for Ged on the vocals due to the cold......But it was their only Cleveland show and I think more than anything they wanted to pay homage to the city that gave them their big break on the radio.

They too have been my #1 band for way too many years!!!! With Genesis #2.......rightly so.

Both are amazing but Rush just keep getting better......its so hard for me to think about the day we will not see them on stage anymore. Cry

13 entries! I never counted them.....sounds like I need to review my spreadsheet again.

You have a spreadsheet?Cool

13 Rush albums and I did not choose them on purpse cos its Rush its just that those specific albums were in the top 15 highest rating albums here!

No complaints here as Rush are brilliant - during the 80s they all but saved the 80s from a horrendous album selection, along with Marillion.

Yes I do have an excel spread sheet of the 1001 albums. I added columns to show what albums I own and in what media type I own it.....Vinyl, CD, Digital file.
Then another column which has a purchase ranking 1-3.....1 meaning find it now!, 3 meaning no rush.

^ Geddy's voice has certainly become much "warmer" since the late 70's albums.....I for one have never had a big issue with his sound, besides I never bought into Rolling Stone reviews much anyway, they have always had their own agenda.
Only recently are they trying to get on the better side with Rush, only because they realize what importance they have made all these years and certainly RS does not want to miss an opportunity to sell magazines.

I noticed the wacky vocals as soon as the concert started, but I think Geddy became more self-aware as the show went on and he sounded like he was trying harder to sound better. I didn't notice bad vocals after the first few songs but perhaps I grew used to them.

Is there are still people listening to Rush for the vocals??Question

Hmm.  I love Rush and all, but doesn't that seem a bit excessive...?

Since then I've been listening to all of my favorite Rush albums and I seem to be temporarily addicted again.

What a nice son......my son gave me Snakes & Arrows Live DVD couple Christmas's ago.....That one is a great concert too.....Although we enjoy the part of making of the movie skit, Geddy and Alex are pretty funny!

I haven't seen that one, but Time Machine has some nice comedy skits as well. Alex Lifeson in a fat-suit is win.

Just read in this month's Classic Rock magazine that the album is still being recorded and has yet to be mixed.  The scheduled release is May 2012
