OK I shall

Not saying the British or Canadian or German or any model is the best, because I honestly don't know. What the US has right now though is just no good.

In good ol Finland it's very decentralized, largely paid for an ran at the local level. That's an idea I really like as well.
To cover the need of doctors, (as well as ones leaving) can always have a subsidy for med school, or import doctors like in a trade agreement.

In theory. In reality it's just not happening here at least for a long while. The last attempt failed so it'll take a good while to flush that out of our system. Then all the other difficulties to go along with it.

If they had implemented an NHS in the 30s along with SS no one would want to get rid of it.

Hm that makes me think. I was wrong, that time period was absolutely the best chance America had for it.

Nobody in the UK wants to get rid of the NHS, yet somehow the Tories are dismantling it.  It's really quite bizarre and scary.

It's about apathy! The working class needs to stand up for themselves instead of depending on a bunch of upper middle class professionals to do their speaking.

I know, tell me about it.

We don't know how to protest or strike any more.  We're a bunch of lightweights in that regard.

We may not especially like the French but at least they're better at protesting than us!

People have just given up.

Indeed, as you said the private health sector is understandably opposed to it and that is a very large, powerful and established sector! Overcoming that is a daunting task.

It's kind of funny Obama/the Dems got some praise for "getting the private sector on board" with the healthcare bill, because all the bill does is add 30+ million people to the private insurance sector. Can't imagine why they agreed to fund part of the bill! Can't imagine at allLOL

You are right, the US system is certainly not a free market! Like energy providers in many states, health care is some crazy patchwork quilt with little if any competition.
Since universal is a far, far away dream and our current system sucks, guess might as well open it up to competition.
As usual a tad skeptical of that, but things can't be a bigger clusterf**k than now. Worth a try, maybe it'll be a bit cheaper to us.

You guys are always so angry over stuff and the news is always bad, so here's a case of honest self defense, where the person did what was right.

I don't think a left-wing media exists in the US. LOL

Well...one line into the article and I am already being called a loonLOL
I am joining this "Blue Republican" movement aka for 2012 registering Republican to vote Paul in the primaries.
Can always just go to Independent later and it's not a hassle really, especially to get him over the other Republicans.

Oh, ok...might as well read the rest of that article now.

edit: Wow, by the end of paragraph 3 I kind of want to stop. THIS is what's wrong with the country. Jesus Christ, it's truly impossible to get information that is just that...I mean there's a time and place for sensationalized media (I guess) but it's all we ever see!

edit edit: aaaand I'm done. This person is quoting something they probably saw on WikipediaLOL the "Paul is the most conservative member of Congress in 80 years" thing. I saw that Wiki blurb as well....this author doesn't even get that libertarian isn't conservative. OR purposely misinforming. Either way f**k this, why can't we get just straight to the facts reporting/opinions sometimes?

Jesus Christ that was one weepy, naive, misinformed, pathetic tantrum. I have reservations about many of Paul's more extreme positions, but this guy clearly thinks in black ad white, progressive and conservative, and apparently doesn't realize that his precious Obama is continuing the long tradition of bankrupting America with unsustainable policies.

Well this is no surprise but on what specifically?
That article was complete sh*t. I could've agreed 1000% and still thought so. Vague points, barely touched on anything at all, written by a 14 year old (at least it seemed like). I'm just a weirdo that actually is open enough to listen and want to have real debate. That article is not gunna change one mind, just be masturbatory material for people who already agree.

I guess that's human nature, like when Hitchens died. All the atheists of FB was posting his sh*t and his quotes that really did no good but serve themselves. If he truly wanted to move anyone (and not just fap to his own words) his tactics were not gunna do so. Same here.

Unless you mean the voting Paul for the primary. In which case: Obama is the Dem guy so why waste my time there? I've already said I'm willing to hold my breath and give him a try. I still have disagreements and issues, especially with some of the more out extreme stuff like Drew said but that's where I hope in practice he'd moderate a bit IRL to pass good measures but not totally out there.

Should just write him and askLOL

But the overall point was correct:  progressives, who generally look to a strong government to achieve their stated goals, should not want anything to do with Ron Paul.

I meant the latter part, Brian.

The article was indeed terrible and the comments were even worse.

From some of the debates we've had before, I really cannot believe you're considering voting for him in the primaries.

As for Hitchens, I didn't follow him at all.  'cause you know, I don't follow some guy who preaches something that doesn't need to be preached. Wink
