Zebulon was a German band full of energy, with many hooks and changes, and plenty of fiery solos. Probably
the only weakness was the choice of keyboards / synthesizers -
they sound dated, even for 1980. But despite this minor quibble, what we have here is straight-up excellent instrumental prog, with
a few fusion touches thrown in for good measure, and
it seems almost totally unknown (though Proggnosis have them: http://www.proggnosis.com/PGArtist.asp?AID=10381).
Just the one self-titled album was produced. Never released on CD, it was issued on vinyl by Pollux records (PR E 605), in 1980.Sadly I've only found two samples from this on YouTube, the first track from each side: "Opium haut den Opi um" "Walpurgisnacht" A1 Opium Haut Opi Um 5:32 A2 Crazy Marck 4:16 A3 Pudding Exploison 9:11 B1 Walpurgisnacht 6:06 Zebulon was Ollie Ernst / keyboards Obviously more samples will be needed for evaluation, but I have the album, and will upload the rest of the tracks to YouTube, hopefully tomorrow night or Monday. ![]()

Great stuff! I'll notify the symphonic prog team for starters.
Reminds me a lot of The Snow Goose, one of my favourite classic prog albums. And a bit of Solaris too. |

I did hear this album on a blog site once, and it was very impressive! I went straight onto Ebay to look for a vinyl copy....well, that was a waste of time lol! :)
I would definately get a copy if it got a CD reissue, or even better for vinyl junkie me, an LP reissue!! ![]() |

Today I was notified about this band and already checked it despite the protests of my secretary who qualifies Prog as music for drug-addicts.

Very spacey Symphonic, but still Symphonic IMO. We need two more votes. Iván

Yes - I must admit, early Camel was the first thing that hit me also when I initially listened to this music...And to think that I considered it to have a fair bit of energy, Iván, rather than being soporific - maybe it's ME who's on drugs!!
![]() Changing the subject slightly - is there any conclusion yet regarding the 'Chakra' album from 1979 that I suggested to you as a possible symphonic candidate a few days back via historian9's 'Pre' thread: http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=82984&PID=4361168#4361168?

I posted it some days ago in the Symphonic Thread at the <Collaborator's section, but we have a lot of suggestions pending.
Please a bit of patience with this one, believe me, it's a hard call. Iván

There doesn't appear to be any info on line about this band other than what we already have. They were hardly known about, either 'back in the day' or now. I will attempt to find some information offline in local libraries etc.

Sorry, we can't proceed without:
- Band biography (in english) or a site where to find enough info to make a new bio - An artist picture with a scale of 500 pixel as possible, or a site where to get it - The complete band/artist discography (album titles, cover art, line-up, tracklisting) - The release info. Normally we get this info, but in this case is non existent, the thread starter or anybody who knowqs something about the band, please give us some help. Thanks Iván

ZEBULON ADDED
Please Yam Yam, next time a bit more of info please, it was a torture, I had to invent a photo making a collage with pieces of a bad copy of an album cover posted in the net ![]() I know it's terrible, but couldn't do better. The label and serial number was hard to decipher from the same art cover in the net, and the bio says nothings. But at least they are here. Iván

Sorry Iván!!
![]() However they are very much a part of the history of progressive rock, and so deserve to be included on the site despite the little info that we have (at the moment). I will continue to search offline for more info myself, and hopefully someone who knew the band from the days when they were together performing will eventually see the entry, and maybe come forward with something new. Perhaps a new page could be added to the site with the heading "Help Needed" or something, where a list of the bands for whom we do not have enough information could be placed and a brief desciption (of maybe just a single line) for each one added - eg. "Zebulon (Symphonic Prog), Germany, one self-titled album released in 1980" - along with a thumbnail image of the artwork of their most significant (or in this case, only) album. There MUST be people out there who are not members of progarchives, but who occasionally visit the site, who will have been around at the same time & in the same area as some of these obscure bands, and they just might come forward if a contact form was provided and the facility for them to attach documentary evidence, photo scans etc. to support the information they were providing...It's just a thought...

Except for a couple of guys like you that care, usually doesn't work I made like three threads before and only once worked thanks to a guy named Gentle Giant who had all the albums ![]() But it's very unusual for one guy to have all albums, specially rare ones. Iván
