So does starving, working for slave wages, having your job shipped overseas, actually going homeless, living without proper medical care, and so forth.
|
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I'd rather sit in my own filth in a public street. I'm the new movement.

Hey, it's pre-seasoned roadkill. Though, it has a very peppery taste.

Nothing like a midday beer to make your work(or school) day go faster.

^How does running a company into the ground fatten your wallet? | They still get their bonuses, golden parachutes, etc. Not really that difficult to figure out. It's happening all the time. The top execs ruin a company, yet still manage to walk away with their fat bonuses (often at taxpayer expense) and cut themselves a sweet severance package, all the while leaving everyone else, stockholders, employees and the taxpayers with a prostate probe, no jelly. Have you recently returned from an extended (30 year) vacation on Mars? Wake up and smell the sulfur.
| For sure there are idiots who do that. But I'd think they could make themselves richer if they run their company to huge success and invest on it. What you are describing is a problem of crooks that will be crooks whether they are in the private or public sector. |
Hmmm...not sure I agree with this perception. I do agree a crook will always be a crook.....but not in a public company. Although I understand where this comes from.
Publicly held companies have a Board that the CEO reports to, and usually this board is the one making/approving all the big decisions/moves a company makes. Which is usually in response to what Wall Street wants......Make no mistake, if you have a 401K there is a pretty good chance you are part of this "Wall Street" that everyone is complaining about, especially if your account includes Mutual Funds that are managed by a "Wall Street" manager. I bet these funds probably include companies some people are actually complaining about....talk about bite the hand that feeds you.....Yikes!
I have worked for private companies before and they do not have to operate in the same manner as public companies with regard to compensation, benefits and really employee loyalty. Yes large private companies can operate and use the same tools a public company uses......but mid-size or small privates do not. And I have seen many, many take care of their own (family) way before the employees are thought about.
I worked for a mid-size private family company early in my career.......the day before Thanksgiving one year, the president came around to tell us all he had just cancelled health insurance as a cost cutting measure. We used to see pay cuts all the time, vacation pay reduced.......now this is probably very extreme but I suppose it still happens quite a bit especially in todays economy.
I vowed never to work for a private company again........At least in a public company there are strict guidlelines for all employees, you know what will happen and when with plenty of notice...and if layoffs happen there is a process we all know how it works.
Boards make decisions to make stockholders happy...its their money (and sometimes mine and yours...)

Slaves don't get wages, they do as they're told.

Really? I did not know that! Thank you so much for pointing that out to me.
Surely, you've heard the term "slave wages" before to refer to wages that are unlivable and far below the value of the amount of work being done.

This is soooo stupid. Why the college had to spend money and time to get a judge to approve them to evict the Occupy invaders from school property. They are a health hazard to the college students who are paying good hard earned money. What a compete joke.

Because college campuses are generally considered to be public forums. And it does raise some first amendment issues. For now anyway, there are still some limits on those in power, and they must follow the rule of law in this case. Which means they must go through the process.
We haven't fallen into authoritarian corporatism completely, yet, where private citizens with some degree of power can simply take the law into their own hands.

I don't see why a college shouldn't be able to tell people not to camp on their lawns. Walmart's parking lot is public, too, but they can ask people (teenagers) hanging out on the back of a few trucks in their parking lot to leave if they loiter. Personally I wouldn't want to walk through a college campus filled with smelly people and their trash. The college's tuition paying students are more important than people coming in to whine about stuff. The fact that the college is still allowing people to protest on campus shows that they're being fair. They just want a clean campus.

I believe strongly in a right to petition grievances, but it takes some entitled whiners to think they can pitch tents and basically live in a public forum indefinitely. Stand outside, hold sit ins protest, yadda yadda whatever, but don't set up shop for f**king 2 months.

I just don't get why they just didn't loud speaker some Any Rand or Fox News at them. Perhaps some Christmas music and commercials encouraging them to shop. Oh sorry, I guess that'd be cruel and unusual punishment.
