Yeah 90% of English professors can't even do that.

^ Of course a CEO should be paid more than a Janitor. The question is if he is worth 375 times more. If you vote for your own pay rise then this is the result. If the Janitor had his mates voting on how much he should get then he would get a damned site more. Apparently, we have to pay CEOs this much or they will bugger off and live in another country. Apparently the job of CEO is so bad that they have too be paid enormous amounts of money to stay.

When we start outsourcing CEOs to cheaper countries will be when CEOs start to give a damn about shipping jobs overseas.

Yeah, the argument can certainly be made there, but then again, a CEO does have probably a good deal more than 375 times more responsibility on his or her shoulders than a janitor when it comes to anything concerning the company, so that has to be taken into consideration, too.

Henry Ford and Steve Jobs were obviously in it for the quick buck.

Durr.....you give yourself a massive bonus! In fact that's the justification of the "golden parachute" that they will not be afraid to take risks. Obviously just a cover for letting them pay themselves huge amounts of $ but even in theory it seems twisted. If you want to take a risk with your business so be it, but gotta face the results if it goes wrong. The notion that "no they should be allowed to leave their crashed company with $20 million" is already bad, but to say it's OK because it won't deter them from taking risk??? Soooo you now have incentive to take risky, maybe company threatening moves, knowing if it fails whatever you still can have a fat bonus. The protests were misguided and worthless, but THAT is the type of sh*t they were "against" and I can't say I disagree at all. Also like it or not...the bailout money was given to the banks, and some used it to give themselves huge bonuses! THAT mindset, make every cent possible, f**k anything else, look in the now forget the future mentality is scary. Of course plenty don't behave in such a way but before anyone says that....still doesn't mean the wrongdoers aren't wrong.

They still get their bonuses, golden parachutes, etc. Not really that difficult to figure out. It's happening all the time. The top execs ruin a company, yet still manage to walk away with their fat bonuses (often at taxpayer expense) and cut themselves a sweet severance package, all the while leaving everyone else, stockholders, employees and the taxpayers with a prostate probe, no jelly. Have you recently returned from an extended (30 year) vacation on Mars? Wake up and smell the sulfur.

I don't think the protests were worthless as they once again illustrated that the constitution of this country means very little

Ha! If only. Sadly, and I know from experience, the outsourcing is no longer just lower level either....it has risen up to middle management, including long established guys. My father claims he saw it coming for months, and even saw the process going for years. Like every year when the round of layoffs came you could see them working up the ladder. What sucks most about outsourcing is...what can ya really do? That's just the world today. Of course the people on the flip side of it won't complain, it's good for them. We gripe about how the people in poor places work crap jobs for little pay but it's better than 0. It would be epic though if CEO's faced the threat. Too bad I don't expect many to outsources themselves

Beat you to it Doc! Teo were you seriously asking though? I know you feel there should be no government hands on corporations, but can't be that much in denial of how abusive some of them are. SOME not all. SOME. OK, I'd say a lot of em.....but I'll play nice

Yes. Usually the ones that get really rich are those who actually run their company as it should be run.

| For sure there are idiots who do that. But I'd think they could make themselves richer if they run their company to huge success and invest on it. What you are describing is a problem of crooks that will be crooks whether they are in the private or public sector. |
But why work hard building something, when it is easier to follow a slash and burn policy, collect a huge and fast payout and move on to the next company to do the same thing?
As for Ford and Jobs - there are always exceptions, and Ford anyway lived a long time ago. And it was his own company, as was Apple Jobs' company. Today's corporate climate has changed a great deal (for the worse, I'd say) and rewards destruction more quickly than it rewards creation.

I don't know about that. I've never pretended to be homeless, yet I would consider myself a revolutionary, in that I think it's time to dismantle the old system and start again with a fairer system which places importance on the rights of individuals, not only to social freedom, but to real economic freedom and justice, comrade.
