Do folks think "good jobs" just happen because the government says, "HEY YOU, Yeah you, go make us some good jobs." ?

Well, in a way, yes. Government jobs are usually good jobs with good benefits . So, there it is, I guess that's the liberals' dream: a society where 100% of the people work for the government!

Well, it would be a government by for and of the people then.  Also 0% unemployment. Tongue

As someone who works for the state, I can't really argue here, but the problem is that taxpayers pay for people to have government jobs, so if EVERYONE worked for the government, who would be footing the bill?

The government, if anything, needs to cut BACK on their jobs because usually they overpay people to do menial tasks, in addition to the nice benefits. Plus, I don't see how a senator should get paid three times more than I make as a teacher when we're supposedly both "public servants" and I have to work a lot harder than a lot of current senators do.

People are not paid based on the amount of work they do in the private sector either.  I would strongly dispute that a CEO does 475 times more work than a janitor, yet that is what he often makes.  I would say, if that were the case, the janitor should probably make more than the CEO.  And the people who actually produce products (the laborers) should be the highest paid in the company.
