I spent a well worth fortune on Musea releases. I branched out and beyond the bands who barely surfaced with a reputation in America like Pulsar and Ange. I went for a host of bands like Mona Lisa....which there were certain titles from them that were impressive to your ears, however for me it was like listening to another version of ANGE,,,,and I found that aspect to be empty. It was like I spent hundreds of dollars on the Goblin and PFM cd's and was determined to investigate Italian prog further and finding only about an additional 6 more bands who were unique like them. Musea also did in fact carry more interesting bands than none at all....and compared to other labels they were rated the best for that realization. Inever understood what exactly went on between Musea and Edhels. In the real world it is none of my business. But as far as my sensibilities go I actually enjoyed those early Edhels releases which are no longer available I believe. Many prog fan friends of mine reacted a little harsh toward the band saying they captured too much Hackett and Crimson....and this took place more than 20 years ago. Now when you listen to those early Edhels releases you might tend to think it rates much better than some of the neo-prog of today. Musea always carried a host of bands that were like this. Many of them actually DID have something special to offer. It's a really cool label!

I've got a lot of respect for their huge catalogue of obscure and interesting prog bands, but I cant help feel that they are shooting theselves in the foot by charging just short of £20 an album, which is badly overpriced when a lot of other sellers charge £10 or in many casses less, and because of that I dont have much of their music in my collection.

They have most of their catalogue - if not all - on emusic. For those who prefer the cheaper (digital) option. iTunes too, although that one is more expensive.

Thierry Payssan (not in PA database)
Dans la Maison Vide (2011) Imprint: Musea Track list: 1 - Le Vieux Cahier - (2'33) 2 - Promenade Intra-Muros - (4'44) 3 - Les Jours Heureux - (4'50) 4 - Nocturne I - (3'16) 5 - Juste Du Temps - (4'17) 6 - Entre Les Murs - (3'45) 7 - Fenêtre Aux Nuages Qui Filent - (2'43) 8 - V'la Le Bon Vent - (2'59) 9 - Lune Rousse - (4'08) 10 - Dans Un Songe - (0'46) 11 - Chanson Revisitée - (4'57) 12 - Dans Un Songe - Reprise - (1'03) 13 - La Galerie Aux Miroirs - (5'16) 14 - Nocturne II - (1'50) 15 - Cortège Aux Ames - (2'56) 16 - Au Matin - (2'29) Blurb: "Thierry PAYSSAN is no other than the half of MINIMUM VITAL, one of the most perticuliar and appreciated Progressive rock band of today's scene. One used to say that twins always act the same: Thierry PAYSSAN may have waited six years before making his own great escape, but he also shows a taste for romanticism and minimalism (!) not unlike his brother, Jean-Luc PAYSSAN. Guitars are just replaced by keyboards here. Written, produced and performed by the artist, "Dans La Maison Vide" (Musea, 2011) has been created as the soundtrack for a journey inside an empty house, the perfect place for ghosts of the past, from dusk till dawn. Piano plays the major role here, sometimes accompanied by organ, vocals or sythesizers. Just splendid !" |

Andreas Baaden (Not in PA database)
Slow Down (2010) Imprint: Dreaming Track list: 1 - Slow Down - (7'31) 2 - Frequency - (2'14) 3 - Devotion - (7'48) 4 - Red Rooster - (6'16) 5 - Broken Dreams - (6'17) 6 - Colentra - (4'46) 7 - Nannotox II - (4'51) 8 - Skyrider II - (3'07) 9 - Kino - (5'51) 10 - Novaseca - (6'34) 11 - Above The Clouds Of Jupiter - (6'12) 12 - Space - (10'38) Label info: Andreas BAADEN is playing ambient and electronic music since the early Eighties. "Slow Down" is the title-track of his fourth album, recorded in the year 2010 and published by the Dreaming label. Like some other tracks on this album, the electronic instrumental here is a different version of a song sung by Selina BUCCELLA from Andreas BAADEN's rock band, BASEMENT TWO, located in Bonn, Germany. "Slow Down" is about a better, healthier and more sustainable life, respecting each other and discovering the real essence of life: now it's time to change and listen ! Driving beats and choral landscapes are the main elements of the twelve electronic journeys on the album. Most of the songs were recorded during rehearsals and improvisations in Andreas BAADEN' small home-studio in the village of Aegidienberg, Germany. They are inspired by the beautiful landscape of the Siebengebirge. But the music also drifts into eternity: The last two tracks simply take us into space ! If you like TANGERINE DREAM, Jean-Michel JARRE, Michael ROTHER, or the likes of GENESIS and PINK FLOYD, you will certainly enjoy this music ! |

What a task to plumb the depths of that list . . . I wonder if there are any Can't Miss titles there. I know there's lots of good stuff, but which of it all is great?
