Hey Lizzy! Yep, love Il Castello di Atlante... Capitolo is actually my favourite by the band.
Sorry to hear you're not so sure about Amanita, but hopefully it'll grow on you if you stick with it. And yeah, I would have these guys in RPI any day!

Hi! Actually, what I liked about them was that had I not been told aforehand that they are were an Italian band and had it been an instrumental, I would have never guessed that on my own. So that made me think that they wouldn't fit the RPI sub-genre, despite it being very eclectic. ![]() |

Hey North American Italian Prog fans, save these dates! We finally have a great Italian festival here!
Greg Walker has been organizing ProgFest 2011, and things are firm enough that we can announce them here!
November 11-13
Venue will probably be Dupont Theater in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. (Details yet to come.)
Cost approximately $100-300
Look at the lineup of the bands that have already confirmed:
ALPHATAURUS
LOCANDA DELLE FATE
ARTI E MESTIERI
MAXOPHONE
ATOLL (Tertio lineup)
SHYLOCK
PULSAR
WOBBLER
SBB
And there are three other major bands (one Italian) who really want to play and are firming up some things before committing.
More details will be forthcoming, he wanted to get the word out.
This is an event not to be missed! Let's support these guys!! Edited by Todd - July 07 2011 at 18:01 |

I've been keeping up on this too Todd.Greg must have told you about Wobbler as he hasn't officially announced them.He told me about them today and two other bands that are probable but i'm supposed to keep quiet about it.I'm going for sure. If this falls through in Willmington he said he will do it in November of 2012 for sure, but he hopes this venue is a go.In otherwords if this venue doesn't work he's not looking any further but WILL have it next year. This is truly a once in a lifetime gig and Greg says this won't be an annual thing,it's a one time event.
I figure i'll have about a 9 hour road trip for this.Should be a blast !

I don't even know half of these groups and that looks awesome. Not sure if I'll be able to make it (in all actuality, probably not) but I'll be keeping track of it all. |

Wow--imagine seeing four (hopefully five) of the major 1970s Italian bands in concert! Not to mention the rest of the lineup, which is equally great! Yeah, this should be quite an event, literally a once in a lifetime kind of thing.

^You think you´ve got it bad, I live in Denmark
![]() That is a killer line up, but come November I´ll be buried in books and papers, and buying a ticket for The States is easily going to ruin me. Damn it! Gotta raise some cash to go to Italy instead - some way or the other. Maybe catch some sperm whales and sell them to the Japanese...

Acqua Fragile are pretty good. A bit of Genesis and Gentle Giant in their sound. The first is the better of the two IMO.
By the way vocalist Bernado Lanzetti ( who went on to join PFM after AF) has just released a new album on Esoteric Recordings with Cavalli-Cocchi, Lanzetti, Roversi.

Just got that myself only a month ago, and it grabbed me right away. Less wild than many other RPI albums but beautiful nonethless? And what variety! Touches of more than a few styles on this one.
Have you heard much of the other members of The Big Three? Le Orme & Banco? Or Osanna? (Probably my favourite group.) Of course, this is the place for recommendations too - the RPI team and fans here are so very, very knowledgeable. In my circle of associates I am a Giant of RPI knowledge etc whereas here I am but an Infant! ![]() |

^So wonderful to see other people getting lured into the scene
![]() The more you explore - the further you look into the bands - their offshoots - lost gems and whatnot, you´ll eventually see the the scene branching out in all kinds of different facets and colors. It is unbelievable just how many styles and approaches were investigated, and furthermore how successful and brilliant some of these recordings are. The journey seems endless - thank goodness. You´ve got Symphonic, Avant garde, Heavy, Jazzy, Doomish and on and on. Just to promote myself (I am so narcissistic

Hey Guld, since you like the wilder stuff, try Pierrot Lunaire's "Gudrun." It's not heavy, but it's strange in an avant way.
Full of strange, operatic interludes, voices, and general weirdness. ![]() |

...that moment you realize you like "Mob Rules" better than "Heaven and Hell"
