I wish Journey never covered Just A Small Town Girl, the Glee version is way better.

I agree. AOR had it's place at one time. Thankfully there is not a Classic Rock presents DISCO magazine.LOL

I'd rather listen to disco than AOR, to be honest (this reaps chicks in your arms, AOR makes them flee)TongueLOL

True story: overheard in a pub when Eurythmics's Sweet Dreams came on the jukebox, "Oh no - some woman's covered Marilyn Manson! ... no, no, no... that's just wrong."

Hi,

Anyone have screen shots or links fpr these and how many of them there are? ... getting varied results and they are all confusing and I can not tell why the folks that do these, don't even list these things properly ... I only see one issue on Prog listed but results bring up a cover for 2 others ... makes no sense!

The latest is Issue 15 with Jethro Tull's Aqualung on the cover. The next issue is out in the UK on the 20th April.

I have no idea what the list of back issues would look like or where to find one - the classic rock website is a mess.

Yep .. it is a mess ... and it is the reason why I asked. It doesn't even list the back issues ... how stupid is that? ... but I'm betting they don't exist anymore because they can't charge the exhorbitant prices without that CD with it. Something like that ...

Both of these types of magazines I have , are the Mojo issues of Frank Zappa, and I think the one on Prog ... which is so generic as to be rather insulting to progressive music intelligence. ... you already read that bit of mine on another thread.

Who knew about this? Order the mag anywhere in the world, online and you'll get it at a fraction of the price and probably faster too!!!! They want SO much money for it here in the Swedish shop. Problem over!

Just picked up that issue with the Tull cover. Great issue if you're a Van der Graaf Generator fan. A big article (5 pages or so) with new photos of the band rehearsing, as well as interviews with all three about the new album and other stuff; and also the featured review in the CD's section (a nice two-pager with illustration, absolutely bigging up the new album)

Haven't bought the last few issues down to the fact that despite being a good read i struggle to part with £8 for a magazine (works out at £6 I thnk on a subsription). Shame as I'd be interested to read the VDGG article.

Yes. It's very expensive. Every time I pay 19 euros here in Greece.

There's an advert in the new Classic Rock for the next issue of Prog. Got Gabriel, Gilmour, Anderson and Emerson on the cover. Says it's all about 1971 - Prog's Big Bang apparently. Might be interesting.

Also says they've got Kate Bush, Robert Fripp, ABWH, Amorphos, Devin Townshend, John Wetton and Symphony X in the issue.

And an exlusive Jon Anderson track on the CD!!

I disagree - prog's Big Bang was in 1970, the first year that all of The Big Six released albums.  Also the year of  classic albums by Soft Machine, Miles Davis, VDGG, Egg, Can, Zappa, Gentle Giant, Traffic, Magma, Amon Duul II, Santana, Caravan, etc.

Well as the mag's not on sale yet I haven't read it.

But it does say on the cover on the ad "...the year prog broke..."

Maybe they mean the first year that prog rock started to get recognition. It was a year when the likes of Yes and ELP were releasing two albums at a time. Tarkus/Pictures, Yes Album/Fragile...

It's on sale next week so we'll know what they mean then.

Yup, we'll see.

Pink Floyd had their first Number One album in 1970, (that's recognition), and releasing two albums in a year was not uncommon back then. (Zappa put out three albums in '70, two in '69, three in '68, for one example)

Next up, the case for 1974 being the year of Prog's demise.
