I read a lot of critisisme about Steve in reviews and say he is just a AOR singer, to me he is nothing "just a singer" he have one of the most powerfull voices in rock. he have great power in he's voice, and have also feeling in he's voice. one of the great rock vocalists of our time.
not so unsimillar to John Wettons voice so I can't se any arguments to how people can worship Johns voice on one hand and pick on Steve becouse he is a bad singer, when they have almoust similar raspy voice.

American Idol judge Randy Jackson opined that "Other than Robert Plant, there's no singer in rock that even came close to Steve Perry". Jackson goes on to say "The power, the range, the tone — he created his own style. He mixed a little Motown, a little Everly Brothers, a little Zeppelin." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Perry_(musician)

Yes extremely good. But I predict many people saying that because he "unprogged" a band, he's horrible...

I've always loved his voice. One of my favorites. Edited by Horizons - May 10 2011 at 17:27 |

I think so though I don't listen to him. Of course being on the radio I have heard him.

Journey are pretty lame, but Steve Perry is an above average rock singer, but no more. Edited by QuestionableScum - May 11 2011 at 12:39 |

Steve Perry's voice is simply incredible from a musical standpoint.
Creatively, he has a cheese factor in lyrics and in over-articulating. But I've always loved his voice anyway.
Anyone who says he's a poor vocalist doesn't understand singing very well.
David Coverdale is another guy who in his prime was a cheeseball but had an incredible set of pipes. (Both early and late career not nearly as good though.)

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

I think that Journey could have had it both ways much like Supertramp did. They chose the money train route and the rest is history. |

this song has really the coolest guitar sound I have heard in rock, just love the tone and riff, Neil Schon at he's best. MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST IN ROCK
