fnar fnar!

Seriously though, any takers for Kate Bush being included on the old prog archive.

Protege of David Gilmour, mad old tunes, pretty avant garde in her use of instruments, arrangements, influences, sidelong epic in The Ninth Wave, side two of Hounds of Love.

Plus I think she's blinding!

Whatcha reckon?

I love her albums up to and including Hounds Of Love. But I have to say that it is stretching it to include her in the archives. She is more 'clever pop' than prog.

What a good point this thread! You made me discover that she is not in the database!! Why!?!? It is obvious that Kate Bush is progressive music! Come on! Just re-listen to Lionheart and Never foever! She's beautiful and sings very well too! In EVERY music store I went, Kate always been classified into prog section!

Progressive music, yes.

Prog rock - no.

I love her.

Music.

Damn - did I just mangle that sentence or was it destined to come out like that?

Hmm.

It was definitely destined to come out like that.

'Scuse me a mo...

Great artist and very progressive, but as Certif1ed points out, not really prog ROCK.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Kate Bush is highly talented & extremely original; in my opinion, though it is a valid question, she should not be included in this forum.

If you were to include Kate Bush, then what of Sinead O'Connor, Bjork - even Diamanda Galas?

please let nobody post a response which triggers another "well, define prog rock, then" argument

Aye - She was "Shagtastic" in 1977, but I have'nt seen any contemporary pictures of her...Her music is at the progressive edge of pop.

Hang on a mo - wasn't "Contemporary rock" used to describe Genesis and Yes in the 70's ???

I adore Kate Bush she was had a big influence on me as a teenager, she is an amazing talented composer and song writer and truly individual and eccentric.

Kate Bush fans have had to be extremely patient though in waiting for that new album, ive given up hope now though.

I saw a recent photo of her and she still looked good, well for a 46yrs old anyway!

Kate Bush definately belongs in the Prog Archives.

If there's any doubt then go buy Hounds Of Love and
listen to "The Ninth Wave". On vinyl, it took up the
entire second side of the album and was certainly a
prog piece if I ever heard one.

All her songs have a wonderful sense of
experimentation to them; in structure, in theme, in
composition, in arrangement, and in the use of her
voice as an expressive intrument.

Not to mention the often promised tour (she hasn't deigned to play live concerts since 1978 - there's respect for the fans, eh? )

I don't know whether she should be included or not, but since I've just penned some reviews of some David Sylvian albums for the archive (and to me he's a stunning artist but definitely not prog rock - more post rock) I don't see why Kate should be excluded and Mr Sylvian included. Personally that little genius Bjork gets my nod too.

And, I reiterate - Kate was really cute too!!!

'The Ninth Wave' is excellent but then I would say that 'The Dreaming' is the most prog like album she recorded. There was some serious musical experimentation going on here that lead to cries from music critics of 'pretentious!' (sound familiar??).Hounds Of Love was more reigned in and 'getting into line' which is not what prog is about IMO but nevertheless it is a very fine album and one that I listen to a lot.My favourite track of it is Cloudbusting!

BTW Anyone else seen the video to 'Experiment IV'? Scary or what!?

I love The Dreaming especially 'sat in your lap'  its quite a challenging album to listen to.

I see John Medelssohn has just written a book called 'Waiting for Kate Bush' I will be asking for that for Christmas

Please do not take offense at this, but why revive this very old thread just to say you like Kate Bush's voice? The point of the thread was to include her to the archives. She since then HAS been included, I am fairly certain. I don't really see the reason in you posting in here, other than maybe to boost your post count. Confused
