I wanted to get in on the action one time before the style wore out.
Besides, I think it's an interesting pairing. I really do: Both use symphonic and rock elements, both have creative compositions, both have interesting lyrics, and both have violin!

Quite true. Both are great bands in their own right. And I just purchased "Leftoverture" as well.
Listen, despite what ratings here say, Somewhere to Elsewhere, the latest Kansas studio album, is their best work. Modern production with all original members (and Billy Greer singing lead on one number- wow). I think you will love it.
