This week is for the longer tunes. And continuing on from last week, after the
news of the great Joe Morello's death (after I published the playlist), more of
Morello with the DBQ, including my all time favourite drum solo which influenced
a few teenage drummers in the mid 60's. Also, with due acknowledgement to writer
& critic Sid Smith, a couple of albums he's recommended recently on his blog,
including a beautiful Northumberland folk take on Krimson.

 
           Late Addition: by a rather sad coincidence I included an early Shadows' instrumental track before I discovered their bassist at the time of its recording, Jet Harris had just died asa result of throat cancer at the relatively young age of 71. One UK obituary stated Jet, after short and initially successful solo career after leaving the Shadows, curtailed by a run of misfortune, joined the Jeff Beck Group - which was news to me: did they record together? I remember in the mid 90's seeing the Jet Harris Group advertised to play in a large pub in Fredikstad in S. Norway, whilst visiting in-laws in the mid 90's.

Listened just briefly, but I like it - at least after a few spins. Interesting mix of her contemporary jazz with some rock roots

Did you listen new Al Di Meola? - his usual New Sinfonia world fusion band (I saw him two times playing live, really nice if a bit too predictable), on new recordings they are supported by ex-Weather Report drummer Peter Erskine, Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubacalba and great jazz bassist Charlie Haden, plus DiMeola himself plays some track electric. Not radically different music from some previous albums, but possibly more concentrated.

Not heard it. However, spotted  ADiM's names at the head of a list of musicians due to appear at a blues festival somewhere in Europe.......

This Cpt.Beefheart's album is still so-so, but generally later albums are far not so good as early works

20-odd years ago, I heard the debut album by The Blue Nile playing in a record shop and I made the guy's day by buying it 'on his recommendation'.  I got the same feeling introducing others to this 'new band'... and I'm extending you the same feeling - I'm getting that album by The Unthank (thanks to you!).  This is really interesting, haunting, beguiling music.  Cheers, Dick
