Coincidentally just came across the following at Fusenet:
Hi Folks,
All About Jazz is now publishing playlists from readers, writers and artists. The last two days have seen the beginning of a series of ECM playlists that will cover the past four decades. 1970s, Part 1 was published yesterday: http://j.mp/fjknWx 1970s, Part 2, today: http://j.mp/dMLZeE There will be, I suspect, considerable controversy over the choices - omissions and inclusions. But keep in mind two ground rules: first, only 20 titles per playlist (with a tad wiggle room); and two, try not to overemphasize and single artist, so in general a max of two songs for any given artist. Best! Dave |

Hi,
Keith Jarrett's - The Koln Concert
Egberto Gismonti - No Caipira
Jan Garbarek - Eventyr
Terje Rypdal/David Darling - Eos
... right off the bat. I have a whole bunch of Eberhard Weber, Charlie Haden, Abercrombie, Walcott, Shankar and so many others that it is nearly impossible to vote on anything like this and I will pass until we all get to hear some more of these things.
Chalie Haden with Jan Garbarek and Egberto Gismonti .... is also an amazinb combination ... either Magico or Folk Songs are both excellent.
Goodness ... I have a few things to get! I can't afford all this!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

No sniping guys. ECM has so much to offer that you'd need a whole slew of polls to cover it.

Anything that bring some of my fusion heroes together, i.e. Abercrombie, Hammer, Brecker & DeJohnette - specially when its a rare occasion to hear Jan Hammer playing what sounds like the Hammond organ. Also a chance to sample some (chamber) reggae based fusion - another rarity.
Admittedly a bit of toss up between this and the earlier album by Abercrombie, Hammer, DeJohnette - Timeless

No need for sarcasm here, you want us to vote , at least you should explain why you picked these particular releases, because really (no sarcasm here) ECM has much more to offer.

Yeah I had an LP version but when I saw it was available on CD I had to go for it. The LP is yet another flood casualty. For vinyl enthusiasts you can't beat the quality of an ECM. Heavy vinyl, great pressing, plastic inner sleeve. ![]() I probably have heard both of those at some point but don't have them. Might have to turn this into an ECM enthusiast's thread. Walcott's another one of those artists who went before his time due to an accident. I've got Colin all over my music collection. ![]() I can't play the Colin clip in my country. ![]() Edited by Slartibartfast - February 12 2011 at 12:36 |

![]() Manfred Eicheir never profuced a bad album, or borring album in ECM heydays!
Heard Bill Frissel "In Line", or Dave Darling' "Cycles"? Highly recommended by me! VERY proggy stuff!

Great idea. However, I have only three listed here although ~100 ECM albums in my collection (both CD and LP format). Clearly opportunities for more ECM album polls, e.g. the following having a greater jazz fusion bias:
John Abercrombie: Night Everyman Band: Without Warning Terj Rypdal: Chaser Agnes Buen Garnas/Jan Garbarek: Rosensfole Pat Metheny Group: American Garage David Torn: Cloud About Mercury Trio Beyond: Saudades Dave Holland Quintet: The Razor's Edge John Surman: Road To St Ives Nils Petter Molvaer: Solid Ether Mark Isham/Art Lande: We Begin Zakir Hussain: Making Music Edited by Dick Heath - February 12 2011 at 11:05 |

I have a grand total of "one" of those listed. So no vote. I have "Belonging" from Garbarek/Jarrett but prefer "Afric Pepperbird" of all Garbarek's releases.

I've heard and collected a lot of ECMs in my time. There is so much good stuff on this label and so much I haven't heard including many of the options in your poll. Too much good stuff out of print. Have you heard Towner's solstice? Highly recommended by me.
