You're right in this Snow Dog , War pigs is not progressive , it's hard rock , Napoleon isn't prog at all , i agree , Highway star is the worth song for Deep Purple , you're right , Kashmir is an Excellent song , but not the best of Led Zeppelin ! it's not a problem at all , but , if you have no idea about Halo of Flies , Buddha or Paradise / the Spell , what are you doing in this Poll , and what are you doing in this Site !? |
I'm doing in this poll what any free member of the forum can do. Read and comment. What am I doing on this site? Far more than you. I'm finding you a bit of a boor. Why should my comments deserve such a reaction?
| just imagine , a real prog fan , with no idea about Manfred Mann , Uriah Heep or Alice Cooper , what's the hell , help yourself in a cup of Tea !!! |
Lets see. I do know some Manfred Mann.....I know quite a bit of Uriah Heep (but they aren't much cop anyway ( sorry Heap fans)) and Alice Cooper? Well lets just say i'm not bothered...just not that keen on him.
And even if I'd never heard anything by any of these acts...so what? Manfred Mann is marginal anyway. Uriah Heep is on the edge of Prog only and Alice Cooper irrelevant to me. Talk about some real progressive Rock for a change.
I admit before everyone here that I have not heard every single song by everyone. Therefore I am not worthy.

Hi,
Of all those albums, I would say that only the Zeppelin album is the stand out.
The Budgie song in that album is excellent, but the whole album is not as good. Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath are hopelessly over rated, Alice Cooper was not that great, although he had some nice things in his earlier days ... but he was too engrossed in his fame to do better work! Deep Purple is not a great band and they were even worse in concert, not to mention embarassingly loud and hopelessly out of sync and tune!
Manfred Mann's Earth Band is a different story ... I can sit through Glorified Magnified and Solar Fire ... and by the time I am listening to the 5th cut in The Good Earth I am bored ... just seems to be a bit repetitive after a while, specially in the Good Earth album. Kashmir, is by far the nicest song of that list for ears to listen to and by ... in an album that if it were a single album would have been one of the greatest progressive albums of all time, but because it is a double album and it has too much stuff in there that appears to not be as good as a couple of other pieces ... oh well ... but alas ... it can't be progressive because it doesn't have keyboards the way that the progressive definition says it must have!
Of all those albums, I would never have a Deep Purple album in my house, I would probably only have Uriah Heep for the Roger Dean artwork (after I bought 5k other albums that are more important, of course!), Alice Cooper is not on my collection, Black Sabbath is only represented in two albums and they are Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and the album right after it. The early stuff is not big deal and over rated ... nice to listen to at parties ... and relive those days when we were too stoned to know the difference ... which is still the same thing today, isn't it ... except they call it "metal" now! I have that Budgie album and it is a very nice album. Also have Sqwak and not that impressed with it, though it has nice things ... you can see where Rush came from.
Led Z might not be considered "progressive" but their brand of music and feeling was really special and not something that could easily be duplicated ... specially in the days of fake everything and "greed is good" and fame. It was a very special time when people could, and DID express themselves, and Led Zeppelin did a very nice job of it ... and the first 3 albums are unreal and they were like wildfire in those days ... and they were ripping radio apart ... because it was hard, fast, furious and on it and on top of it ... totally with it! Not sure a band can be a whole lot more progressive than that!

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told! www.pedrosena.com

now i can really start believing that this truth of yours is coming from a real progger . I Do respect that , but your turning point will be great if you start taking others opinions into consideration . I Don't really care about Budgie , Manfred Mann or Black Sabbath , but really can't ignore that they gave me the right pair of shoes to walk into the progressive path ! these bands aren't progressive , they're all progressive related !! as i'm not British , not American , not even from both poles , and had to learn English only for the sake of my lovely music , i really feel that because of your guidance in Progarchives , your comments & sharing , my friends from around the globe , i feel myself hungry for the truth about the stuff i love , and that's what make things worth our time !

Halo of Flies. I think that Alice Cooper group is definatly somewhat progressive, when it comes to concepts, lyrics, and some virtuosity, the band knows what to do. Not to mention that Alice Cooper the man is a BEAST.

That is an offensive comment to make about a long standing member of this site - I hope it was in jest.
As for me, I know one of those three songs, do I have to leave?

Budgie is a Prog band? No one told me! |
I haven't actually heard them, but prog radio stations play them infrequently and I'm sure they've been e-discussed, if not here then on some other prog forum! |
Seventies stuff Prog Related at best, eighties stuff (from 1980 Gandalf) Heavy Metal. |
Not a prog band?
