Reminds me though that I haven't been shooting in months now.

I just have to go to a shooting range and learn how to shoot though... (as a good southamerican guns weren't really shown me when I was a kid ). Right now I would be quite capable, if with a gun and if in need to use it, of producing harmful evidence against libertarianism and in favor of gun control
I want one to protect my future family. Edited by The T - January 19 2011 at 13:14 |

Yes I also need to learn how to shoot at some point in my life. I can't stage a bloody coup without basic ability to wield an AK-47.

I shoot competition rifle and trap, though the former I've only done once, and not with a rifle of my own. I only own a 12 gauge (which I don't currently have since they're not allowed in the dorms), but I really want to shoot rifles more often. The price of ammunition and the communist attitude towards weapons here makes it difficult to justify a purchase just for recreational shooting, though. A friend of our family who I shoot with a lot has a veritable armory in his basement: Armalites, WWII rifles, Glocks, a Taurus .44, you name it. I've probably shot them all too.

Trust me, no one can wield that steaming sh*t of a weapon. I've fired one before, the thing is just not designed to shoot very effectively.

It's just the quintessential gun of an insurgency. I wouldn't be cool if I didn't use it regardless of irony or impracticability.

If you wanted to be REALLY ironic you'd use the FN FAL, the "Right Arm of the Free World".

I'm pretty damn good with a rifle, but whenever I used a handgun, I was laughably horrible. |

I wish I was better at handgun. I have incredibly shaky hands and I have trouble steadying myself. I've gotten pretty good at rifle, though. I can get a 1" grouping at 100 yards with my friend's AR10.

Actually...
Excerpt:
"How many murders do you suppose these old western towns saw a year?.....
....How about five? That was the most murders any old-west town saw in any one year. Ever. Most towns averaged about 1.5 murders a year, and not all of those were shooting. You were way more likely to be murdered in Baltimore in 2008 than you were in Tombstone in 1881, the year of the famous gunfight at the OK Corral (body count: three) and the town's most violent year ever." |

I've only been shooting once in my life, and I found it a somewhat frightening experience (I know I'm a wuss.) I do eventually want to own a gun and learn how to use it though. For when the revolution comes. Naturally, I side with my libertarian friends on not wanting gun control laws.

When I worked as recovery lawyer, the company gave me a Beretta Parabellum caliber 9mm
I am a pretty good shooter but only fired cans, because the only time I required it (A burglar entered to my parents house), my girlfriend had hidden the bullets because she was afraid.. Iván

So you're saying that if a can tried to break into your house to rob it, you'd be prepared. Be sure and stock some silver bullets in case of libertarian werewolf attack. Then we shall see if libertarians never die. Also I've heard that driving a wooden stake through the heart will kill one. Edited by Slartibartfast - January 22 2011 at 07:58 |

Good and Bad news from an early republican straw poll (NH).
Bad News:
Mitt Romney won with 35%, showing that the party insiders have him on track to become this election's "electable" John McCain,/Bob Dole moderate (comfortably authoritarian) party candidate.
Good News:
a) The republican's can't possibly nominate Mitt Romney because of the health care issue, or so any sane person would think (this is the Republican Party we are talking about though).
b) Ron Paul finished second in the poll with 11% (up from where he finished in 08', but not by much)
Bad News:
I can already predict what will happen now.
Roomney will get the nomination because analysts hired by the party elite will convince voters that he's "safe" (what a warm cushy feeling the perception of safety is) candidate and that sacrificing principles to win is better than nominating someone who could never possibly win (despite it being proven over and over that a weakly principled republican can't win a national election). The media will come to Obama's aid in making him appear to have moderated and the differences between moderate Roomney will shrink, in the voter's mind (the voters mind: "hey, American Idol's on" *drools while texting in Idol vote*). Obama will win with well under 50% of the vote. Edited by manofmystery - January 22 2011 at 20:43 |

As I have said before, I believe in the right to own firearms but I also believe in gun control. A lot of people are not responsible enough to own a gun and answering "no" to all the questions on the application does not make them responsible.
Should there be required safety classes before purchasing? I don't know but that wouldn't be a bad idea.
I just think there should be more to it than answering a dozen or so questions.
BTW, the AK47 was never meant to be an accurate weapon. It was intended to be durable and reliable.
The M16 (or civilian AR15) is much more accurate.
