Not quite a fair summary, is it Slart?  Wink

"Republicans are fighting to extend the Bush cuts for everyone -- including higher income Americans. But Obama, who has promised not to raise taxes on the middle class, is pushing to preserve the cuts only for family income up to $250,000."

I figured this could lead to an interesting discussion in this thread.

I'll only say that most of these kids doing the smashing are probably well-to-do darlings with access to warm meals and bed at Mommy and Daddys, and beers this weekend over talk of how cool they were to smash up the city.  This is apparently what qualifies as idealism for some of our youth.

For them to be trashing their city and urinating in the streets because they don't like paying for their education only shows me how pathetic they are, as people.  There isn't even much true protest in what these kids are doing, I think it's pretty obvious that many are just using this as an opportunity to misbehave.....and I'd wager that many of them are really having fun doing this.

So, not only do I have less sympathy for their cause because of their "protest",  but I hope those who can be identified do some time in jail, and pay restitution.  More likely, the police will be sued for abuse, such is the backward world we live in.

I have no problem with peaceful protest or a simple walk-out of class.   But people who do this, wherever they are, make me sick.

Angry spoiled kids with too much time on their hands, no real talent, and nothing worthwhile to say lead to punk.  I can't imagine what kind of musical abominations could come out of this.

If we get involved in this Korean conflict I'm going to shoot somebody.

With our 40,000 troops sitting there, we are involved already.  I don't think our troops should be there, we should have removed them decades ago.  But as long as they are there, any conflict will see us defending ourselves.

The larger question is, why don't we bring home our guys home from Japan and Europe?  I'm sure they don't like us there, and we don't like being there, so lets get it done.  Who's our CiC, maybe he's a liberal who doesn't like an over militarized world.Wink

I understand that our troops are there, but that is no reason for us to get involved. It's actually a good time to say, oh sh*t we still have our boys here. We better get them home before one of them gets hurt.

What we shouldn't be doing is moving aircraft carriers into the area and pledging our support to the South.

The war shouldn't have been fought in the 50s. At least then we were "containing" communism to topple the USSR and the South was quite undeveloped. Now it has an economy several times larger than the North and much more advanced military technology. There's no reason for us to play big brother.

I agree Pat, I'm just saying that *if* the North attacks anywhere near where our guys are, you know we'll be defending ourselves.

Actually, Obama has already said that we will vigorously defend the South, even if the shelling is not near our boys.

Yes those are the comments I'm referring to. Human life as some pawns in a perverted chess game for reelection and a fond blurb in history books. It's sickening how the elite views the common man.

South Korea is our ally. It has been since the Korean war,” Obama said in his first comments about the North Korean shelling of a South Korean island. “And we strongly affirm our commitment to defend South Korea as part of that alliance.”

I believe him on that.  If the North launches a full-on attack, I think the USA has another war instantly on our hands.  And if the North launches a nuke, look out.

Wasn't Obama elected to end a war and not to start them?

I just wish we had pulled our guys out years ago.

The Chinese hold the wild card.  Do they really control the North, or is that suggestion bogus?  Because China does not want this war in their backyard, with the refugees it will create.

I think it's overstated, but I don't know honestly.

We should have pulled our boys out of a hundred countries years ago. Governments don't let go of their colonies willingly though.

The understanding in British political circles is that China regards N Korea as a rather necessary, but sometimes embarrassing, buffer between them and the US supported S Korea. In other words, the Cold War at play again.

N Korea does jump when Bejiing says enough is enough, but that doesn't happen too often.

Our collation has doubled in size today. By the end of the month we'll be over a million strong at that rate.

I think we're at "enough".  Let's hope it happens real soon.

Would anyone (on Earth) really mind if Pat took out Kim Jong Ill though?

I'm more concerned with the government's war on the internet than anything in Korea.  Might just be me but I find the US government a greater threat to my liberty right now than the North Korean government.
