I like Coyote so much, it's becoming addictive, even if I don't think of it as more than a "just excellent" album.

I like Coyote a lot, but it's nowhere near CotE.

It comes close for me sometimes, but BLD is still my favourite. I even matched my ProgFreak colour scheme to it

Post Rock hasn't been great in 2010 so far. Is it a dying breed or am I not well informed?

Bullets In Madison released a wonderful free post-rock album this year, that's all I can think of though.

Yeah there are a few good / very good albums, like the recent Milhaven that I'm listening to right now (also a free download), but there's nothing new, evolutionary about the scene any more. My own theory is that because the post rock aesthetic is so basic, the current exhausted all its ideas sometime in the early 2000s. The only creativity I can sense now is coming from other genres who are "borrowing" the post rock sound and using it for their oen purposes - like indie-pop/rock bands, math rock bands, space rock bands, etc.

Alex, apologies for saying Vampire Weekend suck. You know it's nothing personal. I just don't like their music. I'm sure they're talented musicians and I am sure they have a good following and fanbase.
I just don't like them. Don't take it personally, my friend. ![]() |

Most post-rock from what I can tell is very same-ish. It's not really my personal favourite genre. I prefer Post-metal but even then, most bands seem to sound similar. I have a Pelican album and it's nice but it doesn't blow me away. I therefore think it's a dying genre. |

This is one of the most wonderful bands I've heard in a while; although they're more shoegaze/metal type stuff, the track Castles On St. Clair Beach is one of my favourites of the year so far. Really stunning track. Anyway, I'm off to bed. See you guys later! |

I'm not the ogre or pretentious idiot you think I am.
I still think Emehntehtt-Ré is in the top two Magma albums though and I still think K.A. is lacklustre. But I enjoy all Magma albums (except maybe Merci but I can even tolerate that). |

Agreed. The post-rock aesthetic is so restrictive in its simplicity that either it will die because of repeating the same formula, or it will improve the sound and songwriting into something that isn't post-rock any more. I think post-metal has the edge now because it started later than post-rock and it's still searching, exploring. |

Indeed. I prefer music with elements of post-rock, math, post-metal and other stuff (like good old avant-prog and jazz). Ulver are a good example of that.
I'm not against post-rock at all, of course but a whole album of it drives me potty! There's only so much you can do musically and still class it as post-rock or post-metal, as you say. |

I'd never say that, just that it's difficult to talk music with you sometimes as you can be a tad too dismissive of what you don't like. ![]() BTW, I'm finally warming up to MDK, but it took me a year and a half of Magma fanboyism for that to happen. By "warming" I think I mean "falling in love with it". Still I think I'd like it more played in the way they play in the 2000s, I guess the live records from the 00s will make me happy. |
