progkidjoel, I listened to that a while back when I was looking on youtube for PT rarities. It's a fantastic demo, and I just couldn't remember what it was called. Thanks for posting the link |

^No problem; it really is hauntingly beautiful IMO. Shame that a lot of these wonderful little demos and b-sides might never be released.

Hi All, First post on the forum - though I've been a regular visit to the ProgArchives website for years checking new reviews. Thought this was the most appropriate thread as PT are probably my favourite band.I only discovered them about 3 years ago. I've always like the heavier side to music, but my likes also range to electronic, punk, and most derivatives of "rock" music. I read a review about them and checked out In Absentia - and was blown away! Even the first song, Blackest Eyes, with it's mellow start, breaking into the heavy riff then back to the verses, was different to what I'd been hearing before then. I also remember hearing the riff in the middle of Gravity Eyelids and loving it.
Since then I've bought all the PT albums, and am always looking forward to their next release. Interesting to read comments on how they've become heavier from IA onwards, and that some are hoping/waiting for the change in style soon. I sort of agree with it, and despite my love of heavy songs I really miss some of the brilliant slower songs from previous albums - eg Stop Swimming, Collapse the Light Into Earth, Rest Will Flow, etc. I think SW writes these type of songs so well, it would be great to see more in the future.
As for The Incident, I think that disc 2 is just as good as disc 1, with Flicker and Black Dahlia being some of my favourites. I also think that although it's a great album, it wasn't as satisfying as most their previous albums. From disc to disc, each album has a different sound up until now, with The Incident almost a conglomeration of the last decade of PT albums. Not a bad thing, but I'm hoping for something maybe a bit more different.
I also like Blackfield and SW's solo work (esp Insurgentes), but can't really get into Bass Communion or IEM.
Anyway, happy PT listening! (and when's Recordings to be reissued???
![]() **Edit** Just found it "Porcupine Tree's Recordings will be reissued on 6th September on KScope - a straight reissue, there won't be any bonus tracks or remastering".

Welcome to the thread!
![]() I can't wait for Recordings. I haven't heard anything from it yet, so it'll be a nice surprise. 'Collapse the Light into Earth' is simply one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard; a perfect closer to In Absentia. I love The Incident... really nice album. |

The digibook sounds tempting, even if I already have the original pressing... Will probably pass on this one, would've loved a remaster though.
I'd be mighty excited if I hadn't heard Recordings yet, guys. ![]() |

Just preordered Recordings then!
Excited! Although I've heard most of the tunes on it, via Youtube and the PT website, it will be good to finally have a legit copy of stuff like Buying New Soul, In Formaldehyde, Disappear, the full version of Even Less, etc.

I agree Kashmir, having legit versions of these songs is something I have been waiting for a long time! I actually hunted down a special edition, Japanese copy of Deadwing because it had a 2nd disc with Buying New Soul on it, but to finally have the 'Recordings' album to complete my collection is going to be very special!
Gotta love PT, they always put the fans first! I mean, what other band realeases this amount of stuff year in, year out? The release date has even been put forward!!!

Yeah, PT must be one of the most fan friendly (if not especially wallet friendly!) bands out there! They put out so much stuff every year!

![]() Doubt it'll be worth as much, although I'm sure some of the super duper hardcore collectors would still want a copy. A while back I saw a webpage from some guy who seems to own nearly everything they've ever issued... Had like 7 or 8 different copies of each album, and some super duper rarities. Will try to find the link and post it here if I do, ridiculous stuff ![]() |

The new copy of Recordings is like £11.99. The originals were all individually numbered I believe, making them unique and collectable.
I hope the sleve notes include the lyrics.

Jeez, I thought I had too much PT/SW stuff! This guy takes the cake, though. How does he afford all this stuff, when he's only been collecting for five years? How does he FIND stuff like the 1993 Up The Downstair CD?

^He must've been a huge fan for a while now... You can usually come across some copies of the original CD's, but they're super duper expensive.
I'm most jealous of his SW rarities, like the Unreleased Electronic Music CD and vinyl... Hopefully they'll re-release that on a CD one day. |

^LOL. I thought I was insane for having 2 versions of In Absentia (US and European), 2 FOABPs (CD and DVDA edition), and 2 The Incidents (2CD, and DVDA)! This guy is amazingly obsessive with his collecting! No matter how bad you think you are, there's always a guy out there even more rabid than you. That's what I've learned!
