Does anyone know of any lavishly illustrated huge coffee table Prog Books - the type that you
sit on a coffee tale and people picjk and gawk at - usually lavishly illustrated and large hard cover format
 
I discovered this treasure - massive with heaps of colour illustrations on Genesis

Nick Mason's book on Pink Floyd - Inside Out - is a coffee table-style tome and very nice to look at with lavish illustrations. Mason is quite a witty and entertaining writer with his reminiscences about the band's history, though you don't get to hear too much about the inspiration for the music - Mason didn't write much of it after all.

Mind Over Matter: The Images of Pink Floyd
 
 
Storm Thorgeson tells us how alot of the Pink Floyd artwork came to be, it has some of Hipgnosis' most beautiful work in it.

Then there are heaps of album cover art books published in the late 80's/90's, e.g. edited by Storm Thorgeson, including books on Hipnosis, Roger Dean, simply "great album covers" and then a few devoted to individual artists who painted artwork predominantly for science fiction novels and the occasional album commission, e.g. Christopher Foss (sp). Again vague memories but was the publishing house for several of these Dragon's Eye?
 
I must admit those books devoted to a 1000... e.g. albums, classical albums, album covers, places to see etc., are considered as coffee table books in this house.

I prefer my books on shelves than on the livingroom coffee table (less dust and no light discolouringTongue).
 
The ones I used most are my references (Borderline books mainly Jouynson and Asbjornssen), but lately the french editor Le Mot Et Le Reste has released a bunch of excellent books on music.
let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter
keep our sand-castle virtues
content to be a doer
as well as a thinker,
prefer lifting our pen
rather than un-sheath our sword

Roger Dean's book released around 1976/7. It is a big bugger but makes for great perusing as all his finest vinyl artwork had been done by then.

Man, I'm glad none of my prog coffee table books were on the table when the house flooded.  I did lose some good non-music books though.  One that does come to mind is a Kate Bush fanboy book.  She is rather photogenic.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

Julian  Cope's "Krautrock Sampler" has some nice pics of the cover art of classic Krautrock albums, but for some reason the book is TINY,  at least the version I have read. What a shame.

What about Rick Wakeman's Grumpy old rock star or Keith Emerson's Pictures Of An Exhibitionist. Both are hilarious. I think Ian Anderson is currently writing a book as well.
